Joker Powerboats/CRC 611 Prerace Report: Solomons Island, Maryland
On the heels of their first place finish in the International Offshore Powerboat Race held between the shores of Port Huron, Michigan and Sarnia, Canada, the team heads to the Patuxent River this coming weekend. The race is the final points event of the OPA sanctioned Amsoil Offshore Powerboat Racing Series. While the team is not in the running for a second National Points Championship, they are looking to close out the regular season with a strong finish. “The damage the boat sustained in the first event of the season caused us to miss two races while it was being repaired”, reported team driver Pete Smith. “Although we are out of the points for this year, we certainly want to finish on a high note. We have always run well at Solomons Island.”
The Joker Powerboats/CRC 611 team has its work cut out for them as class 6 is the largest and most competitive class in OPA offshore racing. “The growth of our class has been fantastic and the quality of the teams has made the competition on the water fierce. Any of the boats has a chance to win and that pushes us all to run on the edge,” stated team throttleman Rich Smith. Look for the team to do just that this weekend as they battle it out for the checkered flag.
