Cleveland Construction Inc. Offshore Racing purchases new boat and will be running in the 700 Cat Class for the 2014 Season
St. Clair Michigan – Cleveland Construction Racing acquired a 388 Skater Racing Boat for the 2014 racing season. The boat has been outfitted with additional safety equipment and ready for its first dip in the water, now scheduled for Friday, March 28 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. The racing schedule starts on April 11 weekend at Charlotte Harbor Florida and “We are looking forward to displaying our new baby then”, said Shawn Smith, Throttleman for the Team.
The Skater 388, manufactured by Douglas Marine Corporation in Douglas Michigan, has a Beam of 11’0” with a racing canopy seating for two. The boat is powered by two 510 cubic inch chevy engines with top speed of 130 mph.
"The buzz over the new boat is overwhelming to the team” said Ed Smith, Driver for Cleveland Construction Offshore Racing. “We all have a passion for racing and we love the sport and this would not be possible without the support of Cleveland Construction”, said Ed.
Cleveland Construction Offshore Racing has competed in both the Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) and Super Boat International (SBI) racing events throughout the United States. The racing Team has received 9 National Championships and 3 World Championships. Ed Smith was also inducted into the 2013 Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame for Offshore Boat Racing. “With all the locations for racing, it gets some wonderful exposer for the company and it’s simply a lot of fun” said Mark Small from Cleveland Construction Inc. Seeing Ed and His son Shawn in the boat is exciting. “It just goes to show that with the right toys, you can teach an old Dog a few new tricks” said Mark Small and “we are excited to kick off the new racing season this year.”
