This was the first event I have been to in years and I must say I was happy I went. Good crowd on the beach and the inlet. Weather wasn't great but you can't control that.

The racing was enjoyable but confusing (and I am a former racer). The racers definitely got a small taste of ocean racing and for the most part they seemed to be able to handle it pretty well. You can definitely tell there were some with not much rough water experience, but what a way to learn.

Hopefully they will return next year. I know if they do I will be back.

I would like to provide some insight.

At the time of your posting, results were not yet determined.

If I come across the results I would try to post them, but quite frankly they were not available until the awards ceremony which traditionally starts near or close to the time of the schedule but always subject to change.
Last night at 7:30PM racers and crew members were enjoying some fine food prior to the awards at Martells.
Awards had started and what many people did not realize was that the food they were having was only the appetizers.
While the Awards went on , the Main Courses had started to be set in place .
Martells really went all out to make this night special and I was happy to see so many people stick around for a change and enjoy the Prime Rib, Lobster and Other Seafood that the establishment had put out the length of the entire back room ! So not as many people rushed to their vehicles to get home after the awards, but kicked back and enjoyed some great food and shared some laughs !
The good news is, the town has a new Mayor and he and I grew up in this town during the offshore days of the 70's, 80's & 90's and wants this race to come back as big as it ever was.
The town was very supportive this year !!! What a difference a Mayor can make...

If you need footage heading out and staging, we have it. We didn't get race footage as our GoPro snapped off on the FIRST big wave at the start of class 6.

MIRACULOUSLY, friends of the Whoa Mama crew happened to be the ones of thousands that found our GoPro ashore during the race!! The video shows a lot of tumbling in the surf, then gets picked up. They gave us the finger ��, filmed the crowd at the beach and even turned it out to film a little of the race from shore.

After the race, a couple from the Whoa Mama crew where at our boat in the pits talking to my son about the drive that we ripped offf on lap 4. As they were walking away, my son said "And, WE LOST OUR GOPRO!" They turned around and asked if it was orange (the float on the back). My son said "YES!!!!"

Very cool. ...but we never recorded the most amazing footage launching off the huge waves. I'm hoping others had great footage.

Do you want that? It could go viral!!
