OPA in Atlantic City

OPA BRINGS BOAT RACING BACK TO ATANTIC CITY FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Brick, NJ, May 24, 2004 – The Offshore Performance Association (OPA) announced today that it will conduct an Offshore Powerboat Race in Atlantic City NJ on Sunday July 18th 2004. This will be the second stop on the OPA Northeast Tour. Atlantic City is one of the most spectacular places to hold an offshore boat race, said Kurt Berger, the President of OPA. The boats run right between the two piers and excellent viewing is available right from the beach or boardwalk in front of the Casinos.

On Saturday, the boats will be on display along the sea wall next to Historic Gardner’s Basin. A large crane will be putting the boats in the water next to the Aquarium and some boats will be testing in the ocean on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, after the boats are launched, they’ll tie up at Trump’s Marina Hotel and Casino awaiting the signal to leave the docks at 12:30 am. The race starts at 1PM. There is no admission to walk through the pit area or watch the race. This is a great way to spend the day on the Atlantic City beach without the normal costs associated with attending a major sporting event.

Here’s the entire OPA schedule for 2004.

Brick, NJ - June 26, 27
Atlantic City, NJ - July 17,18
Pt. Pleasant, NJ - Aug. 12,13
NY Area - Aug. 28, 29
Cambridge, MD - Sept. 25, 26
Philly/ Camden Area - Oct. 9,10
Key West, Fl - Nov. 14 - 21

OPA’s rulebook only provides for five (5) classes of boats. The boats classification will be determined by the boat’s highest possible overall lap speed.

Berger says; with only five classes of boats, we see greater competition and a larger number of boats per class. The great thing about this sort of speed bracket racing is that racers can build their own motors to any specs they want and we’ll fit them into one of the five classes.”

For additional information or you would like to race your boat, see www.offshoreperformanceassociation.com or contact Kurt Berger at 732-477-7400.

Additionally, OPA is looking for volunteers to help with this race. Anyone with a boat between 20’ and 60’ are welcome to help. Please email [email protected] or call Ron Polli at
732-255-3969 to volunteer.

Now Im really confused. I thought we were running by best possible top speed according to GPS?

or am I misreading this statement somehow?

Bruce, this was a press release I did for the A/C news papers. I thought I'd post it here too. I may have been slightly incorrect, don't sweat it.

Mike, there's no hidden agenda, there's no secrets. Give it up, the boyz and OPA are just fine...Thanks for trying to find some dirt to stir up. Won't work here.

Bruce, GPS's will be in ALL boats and that's how OPA will run the races.Ya can't go over your posted speed per OPA in your class(P4=80MPH). Mike, as Ron P. has stated there are no problems with OPA and The Jersey Boyz! We may not always agree on everything but Smitty and I will help OPA and all the teams any way we can. No POLITICS, NO BULL $HIT...just go out and have fun otherwise we will do a tap dance on someone's a$$. We've started a good thing here with OPA and The Jersey Boyz...lets not throw it all away with bull $****, bad mouthing, trying to find something wrong mentality. THANK YOU, The GODFATHER
