New Boat
Listen to these guys. Buy a slower more dependable boat first. As you get used to it and start getting the feel for it you will be educated enough to look at other boats and sizes.
If I was you I would consider a 42 Legacy with 700's and the NXT drive. Great boat and really good in rough water. Then in a year or two step up with more power or another boat.
It is hard to get seat time (driving the boat time) if it's not running and with the big power you are talking about, it will not always run. That will limit your seat time. Believe me when they break it takes weeks and even months to get them fixed.
Tres Martin's course is invaluable, take it.
Good Luck

I rode in the red & black 41 Supper Leggera & it was awesome. You might want to think about that boat (if you like the style). 700's but I think it has #6 drives on it so you could always trade up on power. We ran 110mph with 3/4 tank of fuel & 6 people on it.

Hi All Fired Up, thanks for taking the ride in the Super Leggara. Where did you do that? It has NXT's on it and yes it is a great choice for SCBoater. Did you know that it gets 1 mpg at over 90mph! You guys are correct re: the maintenance on the 1075's, you nhave Oil/filter changes plus valve lash adjustment check ups to record any suspicious wear between those services. You are also correct as to the 100 hour go through.($40-50K) People often forget about their Cyborg's and SSMVI's, those need major go through as well. Now to SC's "problem", ask most 46 owners and they'll tell you it's worth every penny of maintenance dollar. Yes Chris at Ocean has a 41SL. Thanks for the kind words.

No matter how much you don't care about throwing money away, that boat is the worst boat for you to buy... With no ownership experience, in this league you will break so much stuff just from in experience. Also to fast and I hope you're a good swimmer. All that being said the 46 with 1075's is a great choice. Not by any means should a first time buyer be allowed to buy. Here goes our insurance premiums.
What makes you think he doesn't have mechanical knowledge of boats?
Maybe he can afford to have a whole team on the dock to rebuild both engines after every run.
The best advise I can give is;
Take the Tres class
Take it easy until you are comfortable and adjusted to the boat..(I'm sure you are already thinking that)
Have a great time, congrats, beautiful boat....I want a ride
