2007 outerlimits
 

I just wanted to say hello and that I'm new to the board. The wife and I are getting ready to jump into our first powerboat. We are getting ready to pull the triger on a 46 Limited with twin 1075's in her. I've mostly boated on lakes so far but always wanted to get into teh open water stuff. The questions we have are I'm going to be doing some traveling up and down teh east coast with teh boat going to different water. will my F450 (4.88 rear pull the boat nice) and what kind of performance numbers am I to expect from a boat like this. I've look at a lot of boats. and have it narrowed down to a outerlimits. (just love the boats and they just fit well) we are also looking at their 51' also. same engine set up. just wonder which one you guys like????

Welcome to the board. The OL 46 is a great model..actually one of my favorites personally. Your F450 is suffecient for that task. I have a 43' Nor-tech which is heavier by 1000 pounds and pull it with a F350..no problems. Are you looking at a relatively new/used one or building one.. Also check into the Tres martin School, well worth it..you can never learn to much, especially with that power... Thanks and good luck..hope to see ya on some poker runs..Jeff

Welcome! Outerlimits is a great boat and company, I couldn't be happier with them! Customer service is SECOND TO NONE, absolute best of the best! I like the 46 also and with those engines I believe you will be in mid 120's.

The boat course is an absolute must have!!

No matter how much you don't care about throwing money away, that boat is the worst boat for you to buy... With no ownership experience, in this league you will break so much stuff just from in experience. Also to fast and I hope you're a good swimmer. All that being said the 46 with 1075's is a great choice. Not by any means should a first time buyer be allowed to buy. Here goes our insurance premiums.

Okay, let me rephrase. Your buying a 1million+$, 120+ mph, 2150hp, and 46 foot boat...as your FIRST powerboat? Wow.

He said it was his first powerboat. Knowing somethng and driving a boat at mid 120's on the edge is another. I think boatbuilders would agree but however would sell the boat in a heartbeat. Didn't outerlimits have a condition that to buy their bigger boats you had to be a previous owner of their boats.

Better check the maintenance intervals on those 1075's. Did you know the 100 hour service is about $52,000? Did you know they need to be checked every 15 hours?

Expensive boat to learn on.......But if you like it, they are cool.

I gotta agree with BraceYourself, if this is your first powerboat 1075's might be too over the top. I think a good choice could be the 46 with 700sci's it would still run very strong and you could get insurance for it no problem. Or you could always do 850's but still a lot of power for first time, IMHO!
I still say the course is a must!
