Considering going cat again- am i nuts?
Hey guys- trying to make sure I'm thinking straight, looking for input.
I've run boats for yrs, 1st perf boat was an eliminator 25' Daytona for 3 yrs and i miss it.
Moved in to the 28 Pantera and it's been great for 3 yrs, just got some more power, fresh engine, it's reliable, nice XR/ITS/Imco lower, and now a new custom alum trailer cause I want to go to the ocean at least once a yr.
But a few friends have gotten cats recently and I'm constantly reminded of how much I liked my cat- If I made the move it would be 28-32' with mild twins and a small cabin- the cabin part rules out about 2/3 of the field. I'd go used for financial reasons- affordability and depreciation
90-95% of my boating is inland lakes, mosty of that at cruise (I do miss a 60+ mph cruise). A cat of the size I'm talking would be fine for the limited trips in bigger waters like grand lake, Loto and the Destin area.
So talk to me- am I considering all the right variables? Insurance might be a bit more but the overall cost to play is still good, and with milder power ins should not be that bad.

sell the rock crawler and have both Maybe a smaller cat like you had.
I have a friend with a tunnel hul jet boat that's a blast to clown around in. It will shoot killer rooster tails and excelerate like a double barrel shot gun. I have though about adding one of those to the fleet to mix it up alittle.
better yet just go with some monster power in the pantera, get your cruise speed where you like it and rock on. (no pun intended)
PS: yes, you are nuts....but I can relate

I'm in no rush right now - still doing the homework to make sure I can ID a workable cat solution. I hesitate to put a price on it now becasue I want to make sure I'm going forward and have wife buy in before I tease anyone too hard. I'd do some homework on fair market value and tweak to move it fast once I'm ready to pull the trigger. I'd rather move it than sit on it and wait for the guy who will pay 10% more, If I plan to sell I should know in the next 4 weeks for sure and have a price. A reasonable deposit would hold it a few months. There are lots of pics on the Pantera site, I'll get a bunch of stuff together if/when I pull the trigger
Was going to post a pic but pc is not cooperating right now- the pic is a helo shot on Grand lake taken last yr- it's in the owner's gallery
