Wow
Well, I finally found out what Pantera's are built for. I'm in Amelia Island on business and brought the boat. First the good news. Went with a friend out of the north inlet and had nice rollers. It was unreal how stable the boat felt cresting the tops around 50 mph sailing for a second or two and then landing on a cloud of air. Push back into the stick to do it again and again and again..... It was like playing a video game.
We chilled out for a while and were idling around while talking. Then a crazy alarm type sound went off just behind us. Two US coast guards with guns on the bow pulled us over. They thought we were up to something. It's all good, and they loved the boat.
Anyway, we run down to the south inlet and notice the waves are huge getting into the channel. Now I'm no expert on waves, but these things are taller than a sheet of ply wood on its end and I couldn't stop thinking of the Hawaii 5-O I couldn't see the ocean as we made our approch. Trimmed down and took it easy. It was like an amusement park for an hour or so. I got very use to the way the boat was reacting and really started to play. I was running up these monsters at 40-45mph and I promise we must have flown the prop 6-8 feet out. It seem higher than that. Thanks Jo and Pepe

well, yes there is some bad news. I went back to the marina for a break. went to lunch and came back to go for round two. Left the marina OK navagate the intercoastal Ok ,went through a no wake and then get ready for the inlet. Got up on plain and decided to make a final inspection . poped the hatch and looked around all visuals OK all gauges OK get back on plane to only to hear a gut wrenching noise. bang bang bang in the engine. Shut it down asap. Inspect everything possible. Ask my buddy to turn it over while I'm in the bilge. I told him that as soon as he hears anything bad to kill it asap. It fires up and then BANG, Bang.
It sounds like a rod is broken. dropped anchor and call for a tow
Now I'm just walking the beach and it sucks
sound like a dude hitting the block with a hammer

Re: Wow
Tom, the all white is badd azz, sorry about your engine bang. I dont know who built your engine or what parts are in it, some rods have a stretch bolt rather than a tourqe scale, meaning that if the bolts are not tighten to the proper stretch scale a lot of damage to the rods and crank can occur. Do you remember looking at the oil pressure before and when the banging was going on. Good luck, and dont hesitate to ask me anything about engine problems. Albert
