I'm a 17". I would say 17" is max if you want to run 3-blade props and 18" is max for 4 blades.

17" is my x-dimension. My propshaft is 4.8125" below the bottom of the boat.

FYI this is the X that Pantera uses on the 24. They do go a little higher on the race boats, 17.5" or 18" if memory serves me right. Maybe Jo will chime in.

Thanks for the info. I went by Pantara a few days ago and spoke to Pepe regarding this. He did say that Jo would know the exact X but was away from the shop for a few days. While there, I took a look at the "Plum Loco" boat which is running an extension box. I've seen this boat on Video and it runs sweet. Is the X raised higher with an extension box? Here's my situation. My Bravo is currently set at 7 inches below the bottom which is way to low. I run a 27 and 29 Mirage. I really don't want to dismantle the boat, seal the transom and raise it as the boat was just painted. I'm considering going with a 3 inch shortie and hacking a bit off the bottom rear edge of the upper for prop clearance. Don't need much as the Mirage diameter is 14 1/2 and with the 3 inch shortie it gives me 7 1/2 inches of prop clearance. This would put me at 4 inches below the bottom. Secondly, if I install an Imco 3+ extension box this could also bring me up 3 inches. Would I still need to go higher than this with the prop now being set back further?? Is there a handling gain with the setback. The other option I am looking at is to pull the Bravo and go to a #4 with an extension box. What is the tried and tested X dimension with the SSM 4?

I'm betting even a 2" shorty will work well and still allow you to run 3-blade props. Last I knew the 3" shorties required some case mods.

Figured it out after many changes

Extension boxes DO work on a 24. Originally the boat would run 81-83MPH on GPS 7 1/2 inches below the bottom with a 29 mirage. Power is a massaged 525SC making 545-555HP. Boat was a handfull and always shooting for the sky in 2-3 footers. Installed a +3 box which raised the X to 4 1/2 inches. Mirage blew out at this height so didn't get a good run. Ran a Hydro P4 Labbed 28 Pitch. Boat reacted completely different. Straight as an arrow, no chine walk. No bow to the sky. Boat ran great in the ocean in 2 footers. Topped out in the calm at 86MPH @ 5900 RPM. Next, installed a 2 inch shortie, ran the same prop. Top speed was still 86MPH but at 6100RPM. Not where I wanted to run the engine. Installed a labbed 29 P5X on the shortie. Things only got better. Boat was on rails. accelerated like a raped ape. In the ocean same about 2 footers ran a consistant 78 MPH right over the top, 280 tabs just below level. In the bay, 5800RPM 90MPH and able to hold it. We did have on helmets and jackets. This boat is a light layup, my concern was being able to lift the bow at the 2 1/2 X Dim. With the high X only a touch of the trim would get the bow up. So, to those who questioned the results of a box on a 24. DO IT!!!!!!

I've had a 24' Pantera and a 24' Superboat. Both boats had the prop shaft set approx 5" below the bottom.
Both boats ran fastest with a 3 blade but handled better with a 4 blade. With a 4 blade you'd have to trim real high to go fast unless you had the prop modified.
I think if you're going to run 4 and 5 blade props, you can and should go higher with the prop shaft. Something like 4 to 4-1/2 inches below without a box.
