Don't get me wrong Rak, lots of potential there. Id love to have it in the driveway.
It's just when you really boil it down, there are plenty of reasons it's still available at that number.

Not a Pantera guy but, why would you use big power that crushes drives? Why not twin small blocks?

Whats sitting there is a good price but have to add about costs and the nickle & dime factor - If you are buying new components for everything to finish and especially if you can only retail buy, then possibly factor in some work subbed out, you are talking about 80 K + to finish this boat. CUSTOM interior cost alone is 16 to 22 K having it professionally done.

How long has this boat been sitting outside and then how long completely uncovered ?

Easily see total costs over 100 K + for a 100 % professionally completed boat matching manu standards with all factory warranties using OEM brand new stuff.

I already know the costs but how much do you guys think a Merc HP Racing 520 package costs alone ? Hint - its way more than 30 K and we are only talking about the HP 520 to throw in this 28.

It doesn't really need big power. It should easily run mid 70's or higher with a 525EFI.
All the stepped hull 28's have stringers set up for a single engine.

That's only the asking price. Cash in the face sure will sure change someone's mind quick! I think that would be a great boat to build. Bare hulls sit all over and its not a problem when uncovered from a moisture stand point. How much would a new Stuphen 27 cost in comparison? If you do it yourself. light weight carpet the cabin, all lighting and gauges ,throttles and gps for 3K. Interior 2 front sit downs, rear bench and a center console with gunwale pads drink cups and handles 6500 to 8000K even from PPI.you install it. leave a rear pad for later. Tabs, pumps with lines and switches 3000k, A B1X with ITS 16000K. And Bring SARIS a block and get a good motor for 15K plus exhaust. steering 3000 , and and 5 grand for all extras would be a lot, more than enough to finish nicely. So your at $53000.00 plus the cost of the Hull. Not a bad deal for a 28' New Pantera that could run 80MPH. And I don't see it taking more than 12 weekends to put together.

I'm not too concerned with top end speed, too choppy here to go faster than 50 mph most days without breaking things.

For me, it needs a 496 HO and Bravo 1X. There's a couple in the classifieds with under 200 hours (about 15k) need to check them out carefully. The boat is already 2 years old so in a few years time, the engine hour discrepancy will be insignificant. Probably no need for hydraulic steering with a 496. No silent choice, just through transom exhausts, forget engine mods, keep it stock.

Fitted out nicely, would make a great social boat and would be a very cheap entry level into offshore boating. If you absolutely must go 70 plus, this idea won't work. Check a few of the scan sheets printed by Merc owners and see how much time their boat actually runs at high revs (speed) and ask "Is it really worth it?"

That's why I always get a laugh at guys changing oil at 15 hours when it idled and less then 3500 rpms for 99% of that time. Don't get me wrong changing oil is good, but maybe cleaning the mold from the bottom of the bolsters would be better time spent

Was at 19,500 today and the seller ended the auction.
Apparently, someone has a new project.

Hopefully, we see it surface and see it get built.
