Hi checkmate, The 28 is a great boat and built like a tank. It is a lot of boat for 28ft. I am 6 ft and the cabin has more space than you would expect. You can actually sleep on the 6 1/2 ft v berth. I have twin 496 Mags and top speed with a light load is 75-76 totally stock with bravo 1 4 blades.

My 96 has a single 525sc. I'm only getting about 65mph out which ain't right. It should run 70+. My prop slip is WAY high--like 25%. I run in a lot of flat water and that doesn't help the top speed either. I plan on getting the prop reworked also to add some bow lift. That should help a LOT.
The boat CRUSHES big water. Several board members have been on my boat and were impressed.
The cabin is very large for a 28' boat. It is about the same size as a 312Fastech Formula, except the Vbirth in mine is about a foot deeper than the 312.
The cockpit is also good sized. Comfortable seating for 6.

My 03 boat has a 575sci with the ITS and I am getting 74 out of it with a good load. My boat isn't broken in and I have a 28 labbed prop so I am hoping for high 70's when it is all said and done.

FOr a 28 I think the boat is good size. The cabin is much larger than say a Fountain. Jo builds a custom boat and the fit and finish is as good as any boat i have seen. It was better then my 95 fountain. Jo gives you a lifetime warranty on the hull if you are the origional owner.

A 29 Fountain will be a bit faster in flat water. I think the pantera is about 500lbs heavier, it holds more fuel also.

The boat can have a full length hull or a notched transom.

Overall I give the boat a big and would do it again if I were looking for a 28 foot boat.
