Okay guys, I am inviting OSOers who boat in NYC harbor to this: a video/presentation about the functions of the high tech NY Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service Center. They control harbor traffic much like an airport control tower. Presented to members of the Palisades Yacht Club Friday, 1/27/06, 7 to 10 P.M. A good turn out means MAYBE a tour of the actual facility later in the year. This will be extremely cool!
Did you know many of the big ships coming in the harbor clear the bottom by only 1 foot? Don't expect them to move out of the channel if you are broken down in it!
The presentation will be at the Bicycle Club in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. This shirt and tie required restaurant event is about five minutes north of the George Washington bridge, very easy to get to. Cost is $35 p.p. (cash bar) and we need to have the money and know the final tally by Dec. 20th. Send me a p.m. for check mailing instructions to my wife, Treasurer of the Palisades Yacht Club.
