Years ago you got the cards at the stops and thats what you played.. This dealing your cards at the table leaves to much room for cheating.. From what ive heard outlaw challenge still does it old school

Might want to check the rules at the following link. They give you tokens at the stops, but you turn those in for cards at the end of the day.
