Hi. We were doing a summary of our run because another charity run was interested and here's what we came up with. It's great to know that so many people think alike. They think about giving back. In this case it is while having a great time too. Cool!!

The inaugural 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run will be the weekend of July 15,, 2017 in the beautiful 1000 Islands in upstate New York. The River will give you plenty of opportunities to stretch your boats out, while having speed controlled areas so you can enjoy the beauty of the region. Plan some extra days to enjoy events we’ve planned as part of hosting you in this fantastic area. There will be plenty to do for yourself, your family and your team.

The Host Community… Clayton, NY is the quintessential river village, a jewel of a peninsula surrounded by the magnificent St. Lawrence River, nestled along the northern edge of upstate New York and minutes from the Canadian border. Come and soak up the small town atmosphere. Clayton is a very welcoming place that is excited to play host to such a fantastic charitable event. You’ll find quaint shops and galleries, nationally known museums, plenty of bars and restaurants and outdoor activities ranging from fishing to golfing, diving, kayaking to hiking that are all within walking distance. Come and enjoy the 1,864 islands plotted throughout the St. Lawrence River.

The Host Hotel… The 2 year old 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel is a 105 room, Four Diamond hotel. The hotel features a variety of deluxe rooms and suite accommodations. They offer nightly turn-down service, an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, state of the art fitness center and a professional concierge on call to assist you and your family. Your boat will literally be feet away from you and visible from most rooms. Please visit the link below

The Host Marina… Clayton Harbor Municipal Marina is a new facility completed in 2016. The 52 floating slips and the 300′ Pier will be perfect for our event. The Town of Clayton will allow rafting 2 or 3 abreast as needed, accommodating about 80 to 85 boats. Electricity [30 amp and 50 amp], water, WiFi, laundry facilities, pump out, restrooms and showers are all available.

Here is what The 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run is all about!! “A run with a reason - a party with a purpose.” The primary recipient of charitable proceeds is The Wellness Center at River Hospital in nearby Alexandria Bay. The Wellness Center treats both active duty and veterans suffering from PTS and TBI. The successes being had by this treatment center have been amazing. The Center is giving life back to soldiers who have bravely served this country and returned to very at risk and uncertain lives. We intend to ask for volunteer entrants with an empty seat in their boat to offer a veteran the chance to do the run with them. Please consider making it to this Charity Poker Run.

The entry fee is still TBD, but in line or under other quality runs. The kicker is that the food, Docks, Venue and entertainment and prizes will ALL set this event apart. By the way, the docks are included with your registration. There’s another big plus. Follow the Facebook Page. We have set a limit of 100 boats to assure the best experience for all involved. Registration opens March 1, 2017.

Support the Veterans who have so selflessly supported you and have one amazing time while doing it!! Talk about a win win?!?! This is IT!
“The community of Clayton welcomes all the Poker Runners and families with open arms, we feel they will love our little town and we know they will love the 1000 Islands and the mighty St. Lawrence River” Bobby Cantwell – Town of Clayton Councilman.

That's fantastic. We appreciate and respect every single decision to add our event to a summer calendar. Being from PA I wondered if you'd boated up here before? That Sunsation is going to love this river. Send me a running photo of the boat if you have one. Or a glamour shot. Thanks for adding us to your 2017! We intend to be the highlight of your boating season.

does USA boaters and passengers need a passport for the event. Asking so we are prepared if we decide to make the run here. THANK YOU.

Hello Ft Worth. So. Interesting question. Past USA poker runs have 'transited' Canadian water during the route and not been affected. The laws get re-interpreted seemingly too often. We met with NYS Police, NYS Park Police and US Coast Guard to discuss on Friday. We have contacts on the Canadian side to talk to ensuring the process goes correctly and the laws are followed as understood today. We will ensure clarity and ease for all before registration day. We would love you to make the trip up north and experience our waterway and our hospitality. We're really working hard to unleash a very special event!

It sounds like a really good time. We are in for the trip as its only 4hrs North but I would like to have a rough idea on fees etc.

Thanks

SR, How are you doing on this fine day not too long before Christmas?

Really appreciate your comment about the event looking like a good one. We plan to give you something you'll never forget on several levels. The beauty of the area, the quality of the event and the charitable nature should all leave everybody wanting to return for 2018.

Holidays being what they are we have not been able to meet as an executive committee which we need to do before we announce the pricing. we have a website almost ready to go and until we sit down and look at our hard costs, soft costs and charitable aspect we don't want to release a price higher or lower than it really should be.

Hang tight through the holidays. We hope to give everyone 2 months to think about it prior to registration day. That said, we've already got almost 30 boats that have written and said they're coming. Enough so that we are working on a pre-release of a hotel list with suggested hotels and phone numbers.

Have a Merry Christmas and a great Holiday Season. RS
