One year I got caught in the traffic trying to load up at the Livingston Parish launch next to Tickfaw Boopalus (the public launch sorta across the street from Blood River) and had to wait about an hour and a half in a light sprinkle to load up. Since then I have been launching at the Manchac Pass public launch (which is right by Sun Buns). Its huge and has 4 ramps. I think lots of the locals who attend use it. It's about a 12 mile run over to Blood River which isn't bad at all. You can tie the boat up at Blood River overnight. So if you stay in the boat or have another ride it's not a bad choice for being much easier to get out.

there are other alternatives as well it's just a little bit of a drive...not bad...any local would be glad to help you get to one!!! A larger and larger amount of boats do the run along with all the ones that are just there for the fun and see all the big time hardware that shows up...trust me people down here really look forward to this even!!!!. its growing thanks to the outstanding people at blood river marina keeping Charlies run and fun house going!!!! Livingston parish tourism looks like they like it along with other public entities that have made it fun and safe...I think they all realize the positive impact it has on multiple parishes down here!!!
Casey you guys do a great job!!!!

No dog in the fight, and no experience with the event.
But that info should have been publicized ahead of time so people could make better arrangements; especially first time attendees. Some folks like and/or need to get on the road at 0-Dark-30 the day after an event; not to mention if someone has an family emergency or similar. They may not be leaving at that moment, but like to get their rig together. Also, what if someone has a hull compromise and is racing their bilge pumps to get back on the trailer?
If it's best to have the trailer/truck at a different location for a trailering/retrieval during and/or immediately after the event, then those logistics need to be arranged for ahead of time; with plenty of notification and information for newcomers and out-of-towners.

The launch closed every year on Saturday. It's always been open Sunday morning. It's closed for the very reasons you said. Every year we have taken broke boats out. Weather it be mechanical or hull failure. Also medical emergencies are tended to from there . have had medical issues and it's easy for everyone to get in and out as need during the day before everyone heads back in.
