Oshkosh Thunder,

You aren't the only event that Smoke conflicts with. Mentor Harbor YC and the GLOPRA Silver Cup Series has a Poker Run and Race that weekend.
I also talked with Bob & Mark at the Miami show. They explained the move, but what they don't understand is that we originally chose our dates so we did not conflict with a major event. We are loosing our Big Draw Boats (LEOPAJM, Wicked Won, Wild Thing, ect.)

OH Well!!!??? The Dragon is staying in Mentor!

John,

When we chatted in Miami we explained that the June date we used to have was just to cold and the Fog had created alot of problems for us to be able to run the second half of the day last year

We went to the city to get approval on another date (you do nothing here without there blessing) and they would only let us run one of 3 other dates

The other two were no better than our old date because we had found out that on the other dates, the local hotels were already almost full and so we only had one choice left and that was July 9th and 10th

We are sorry it conflicts with a couple of other good poker run sites however no matter what date we ended up with we were sure to cross paths with other events

there are not enough good weekend in the summer to choose from

we wish both sites a safe and fun run

we will miss not seeing the dragon here

Marc,

We all have to deal with the weather. Last year we had to cancel our Run (July 11-13) because beautiful Lake Erie kicked up her heals. GLOPRA cancelled the East Lake Race in mid June for the same reason.

We also have to deal with the city, as we are part of their Lagoons Festival. GLOPRA's schedule is also fixed with other events around the country.

You put on one of the premiere events in the country (#5 Top Poker Runs) & people go to your event regardless of the weather. I personally couldn't wait to go there with McConnell & Dietz, as they always have GREAT stories even about the fog. I am just disappointed.

Our Poker Run will be a great event, as we will include a cruiser fleet to keep the #'s up. The Racers will be there & I understand that we are expecting 4 cats this year. Even the sailors are excited!

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that we all put a lot of effort to make these events work and deal with a lot of variables. Smoke was not one of the variables I thought I would have to deal with.

Good Luck to You and Bob, as you have my admiration for the donation to charity and the professionalism that you into the Run.

John

I've done the Sturgeon Bay thing and I've done SOTW. This year I'm doing SOTW and I can tell you that the whole Sturgeon Bay and Greenbay area is gorgeous, but the boat's at SOTW are way cooler.

Dyno,

No it isnt open to the public

we would like it to be
but we do the auction during dinner and we provide beer and wine

controling the flow of people becomes an issue
for the dinner and drinks

we are still working on a way to acomadate this

but as it stands No it is not open to the public

sorry

Springbrook,

I was told that the Poker run that is held there had been moved to a later date (is this incorect?) if so you wont loose the "big Draw Boats" to us

If i rember my conversation with Ron B (Wild Thing) the mentor poker run was a few weeks later now

Marc .... I think your thinking of the "Eastside" run ... that Ronny puts on .... the Mentor Weekend is still the 7/9-10 date .... as far as I know ????
