1999 Powerplay 33 Sportdeck
Need help from my brother powerplay owners

Ok here goes trying to figure out best plan for me and I would really value your opinions. I have a 1999 33 sportdeck twin 502 mpi's thinking about rebuilding motors & up grading the out drives without losing the reliability thats option 1. Option 2 is to step up to a 38 cigarette t/s ready to go . My goal is to be in the 90's+ dont know which is more feasible found a couple tg for around 130k guess I just wondering if I do most the work myself on my boat what I m looking at and what combinations are best . I'm thinking I would need at least 650hp not sure what for outdrives . Like the thought of a bigger boat but never rode in a cig Thanks for everyone input

powerplays 28 and 33
1998 Powerboat magazine did a article on a 33 sportdeck with Performance Marine 502 making approx. 635 going through Bravo 1 1.5 spinning 28 Bravo at 4000rpm 70mph and 5600rpm 95.1.

This is the Maui Jim boat, which is still around and very reliable.

The 38 will not be any faster nor ride any better with notches. Plus, will not have brand new power and will be going through a bravo anyway....which is the weak link.

Thank you both going to see if I can find that article . Thats awsome figured it would cheaper to up grade engines than boat and I love to build preformance engines.

2000 Powerplay 25'
Keep the 33' and repower. It rides like a much bigger boat.

First of all if resale is any concern for you go with Cig. I think Power Plays are a great boat, way better then a Baja or Scarab, but they are definitely no Cigarette. Go for a ride in a Gun and tell me what you think. This no knock on the Power Play but they are in different leagues. I do however believe that repowering your boat will be cheaper then upgrading to an 02-03 gun.

LOL You know that statement is from someone who has never set foot in a Powerplay. I have read that the 33 and the 38 are in a league of thier own, by people who have owned or ridden in one. Including OSO Steve and many others on the board.
