Hard to get on plane ? If put my tabs down drives in my boat planes quick and on the top end tabs up I have to keep my drives up or it feels like my boat is going to nose dive

Yours was most probably 17 1/4". On the 1997 models the X was raised to 18 1/2".

JROMY on this board had the last PP ever built. It utilized the Merc ITS system, Bravo XRs with the Sportmaster Shorties. He had the anti-cav plates on his drives which made getting on plane fine. He broke one once and found it next to impossible to get on plane. However, with twin 525s, stock Bravo 32s, and his shorties he could get 87 out of it.

I am still on the fence with this one.

I just my have to be the lab rat and try extension boxes and shorties. The motors should be complete next week. We changed up on the heads and cam again looking for more power.

Never satisfied!!

My four blade 32 Bravos had no trouble getting on plane, but like Indy said, I lost a cavitation plate once and that made a huge difference. The prop would always blow out.

During low tide, I also ended up running aground at the launch ramp (brilliant move), which very slightly burred up the ends of the props. After having them repaired, the boat was never the same and almost always blew out while getting on plane. You had to feather the heck out of the throttles. Another strange thing was that if you dropped the tabs, it had the opposite effect of what you'd expect - this would apparently cause more turbulence in the water and would make the props blow out much sooner.

That being said, just before the boat got stolen, I was planning on changing to 5 blades which are really the right setup with the shorties. I would not at all hesitate again to use them (the shorties).

Did they find it? I forgot.
A real lesson....watch where you store a boat in S. Florida (it was stolen the day after it came out of rack storage).... yes, I found the boat through help from Offshoreonly and the hull is fine. No motors, no drives, etc. Luckily (and I use the term loosely) they were very careful the way they took it apart. The most frustrating part is that we know who ended up with the parts and so do the police - the big question is if they will ever act and make an arrest...

I just did it without boxes. Boat was faster but harder to plane. I would reccomend only going up 1" if you have a Pre-95 boat like mine. I'm not sure what the post 94 boats will do since they have more weight in the back.
