I agree. Actually, I don't think it's a fair comparison. Eye the reflection of light along the side of a Powerplay and you'll find angles, curves and lines that are absolutely perfect. Then, look at the finish of the gelcoat. It's flawless. Even on a 20 year old PP.
I've looked closely at the new Concepts at the boat shows and can't find a straight line anywhere. Everything is crooked, with waves and inconsistency. They cover up this mess with fancy paint jobs! If the finish is a reflection on the laminate, I don't want to think about hitting a wave the wrong way in a concept!
Your hull and deck are the foundation. Without a solid, well built base, no amount of paint, fancy bezels or pattern stitched interiors are enough to separate me from my better judgment.
Switching topics for a moment... one of the reasons I don't follow this forum very often is because companies like all-star marine promote themselves every time they get a chance. Let's be perfectly clear here... just because Latitude bought the PP CC molds, doesn't mean they can lay-up a boat like the original guys at Powerplay. Boats are all made from the same materials, but the people that build them are VERY different.
