Default 340 Vyper Drive Question

I am new to this forum stuff, This one sounds pretty cool.

I've had a '91 230 Conquest for the last four years. 7.4 Merc w a Bravo 1. Been a Great Boat - 320 hrs Currently. I live in Boyne City, Mich. Hang out on Lake Charlevoix, Trip to Leeland, Beaver, Mackinaw Island & Hessel, Oh Yeah Torch Lake too.

I am currently looking to upgrade to possibly a 340. I see older 340's (95ish) with Bravo 1's 454 Mag EFI. There is also around 2000 a Volvo 415 DPX dual prop drive. And of course there are a few 2002 and up with the 496 Mag HO's with what looks to be a Bravo X.

The Volvo seller states 71-73mph. the 496 sellers are saying 80ish. and the older Bravo 1 think was around mid 60's.

What are the bad point on the Volvo? as they don't seem very popular.

I have my 340 for sales as I am looking to step up to a 42 OL or 43 Nor Tech. It was a centerfold boat in 2005 Poker Run's America mag and has all the bell's and whistle's. It has 496 HO's and Bravo 1x drives, only 165 hours and is alsways indoor dry stored.

Shawn, I'm from Boyne also. Were you on the poor mans poker run last year with the blue and red Conquest? JB

Yes Sir, I work with Tom who puts it all together. We have run it two years now. I believe he has the date set for this year's Third Annual, Though I don't know it yet. It's a great time pounding through Lake Charlevoix.

We are looking at upgrading then maybe we can go play with the Thunder crowd too.

Vyper340, where might I see some pics, But to be honest it sounds too nice.

Default vIPER

I had a 99 Viper with the HP 500's and loved it . Would hit 77 with me at the controls, new owner gets 80. If you are looking at a Viper from 99 or older you will not get the same speed as you do with the newer hull. There is a diff. Newer hulls with the 496 in just the right conditions will get you to the mid 70's in fresh water mabey, but it all depends on the hull.
Anything smaller will disipoint you ( 494) I reccomend 500's.
On the Volvo they have bad resale as they don't get the speed and parts can be an issue. I don't reccomend them.
Here is a shot of my Viper 500's

Shawn wecolme to the board first, and good luck finding what you want. This group should be able to answer most of your question, or if you find a boat they may even know how it was maintained. Good luck.

Rich.

Hi,

I have a 95 340 with 454 bravos. It has 380 hours.

I can do 70 any day. I have hit 72 and 71 depending on the water.

No problems with motors/drives.

Jeff

2002 w/ 496 HO's and GPS speed is 81 mph (tattletale) but it consistently hits 78 in most conditions under 4 foot waves.
