Default new best-new prop

I just ran the new hydromotive quad 4-X 24P on my 93 270 laser. I'd heard these older quests liked bow lifters and mine did as well. The boat has a warmed over carbed 502. I did a full roller conversion with hyd. roller, 950 carb, dart single plane, and upgraded from the old log manifolds to the newer merc exhaust with some porting.
I went 64.5 MPH GPS@ 5400 rpm with 2 on board and 2/3 full tank. I tried a 23P rev 4 and went 63.4 MPH @5300. I had a mirage +25P go 61.2MPH@4600RPM. It kept blowing out when I started to trim up very much.
I learned the 4 blade bow lifters really need to be trimmed up to get their full benefit. Given my RPM, I think I need to go up to a 25 or 26P to get the Rs back down. I do plan on lapping whatever I get so I need to factor that in with the next prop.

Bought the new Hydro for my 26 and love it! Gained a little on top end at about 200rpm less the Mirage plus. I've tried the bravo, and bravo labbed, mirage and mirage plus. By far the Hydro is it!!

Does your 28 have the newer hull? It seems like these old quests are built well, but need HP to run decent numbers. It was very windy that day(20-25MPH winds). I got better numbers running with the wind despite going upstream.( which usually kills 1-2MPH for me.)
I should have trimmed up even more. I never did reach its limit. The prop had incredible midrange acceleration. It seemed like 5000RPM came up so quick. With lapping in mind, I think I may jump to a 26P. The only concern I have is it was 68 degrees out. A 90-95 degree day is going to kill HP.

I have to thank you for your input. Your previous post on prop testing convinced me to go with the hydro-x! I was going to go with the rev 4. I believe your assessments were spot on.

I'm spinning a 24p with a stock 454 mag efi. I was a little reluctant to spin anything that large but they assured me I would be fine as with less cupping than the mirage or bravo I'd be able to spin it. I'd say a 26 would be a great place to start.

plus not to mention the sound of a prop.... sounds evil when running it! You guys also need to look into your X dimensions, Im running an IMCO 2" shorty and getting 5-7mph gain all the way around power band. Also have the hydromotive quad 4-X 24P cupped. My best speed on my 270 laser was 69.6 on Garmin. Running Gellner around 550hp.

I thought you were spinning a 23? It just goes to show you there is no substitue for real world experience. Due to the design of theses props, it seems a step up in pitch over a mirage is the way to go despite being a 4 blade.

Your correct I am spinning a 23 , my error. Still I figured I should have been spinning a 22 or a 21p in the four blade. Now I just need to get out in a little chop and air out the hull a bit and see what kind of numbers we get. But I won't hold my breath on that due to being such a lousy summer.

I was debating on buying your IMCO shorty due to the gains you posted. That is very impressive. I know yours is also a older quest. I'm betting the X is pretty close on all these older boats.
Your speed vs mine on the same prop is interesting. What RPM was that at? Are you slipping less than me? I just sent back the 24 for a 26P. I hope to eek out another 1-2 MPH.
