Lightbulb 7.4Mpi's in a 29?

I was looking at a 2000 29' powerquest with twin 7.4 Mpi's 310 HP. 35 hours 100% stock. with about 1/2 tank of fuel what will the boat do Mph top end? anything short of blowers what could I do to gain a few more Mph?

Thanks in advance!

Default speed

Try this calculator I figured 7000 lbs it cam in at 67Mph Sounds about right.

http://www.go-fast.com/boat_speed_predictions.htm

There are others on this board that have or have had 29's they may be able to better help.

Things that may help would be a Labbed or tuned prop. There are some EFI kits from Arizona Speed and Marine that my help. But with all that it would not make much difference. maybe 3-5 Mph.

I just bought a 99 29' PQ with the same engines (twin 7.4's) I havn't taken it out yet, however the previous owner said all he could get out of it was 65 mph on GPS.
Good luck

Default '93 Enticer T/7.4L's

CAP071,
Had a 1993 with the same(reasonably) 330 HP 7.4's best she'd do was 67 mph on GPS , this was early in the season, 1/2 fuel, not all the goodies on board 23" pitch props turning 4600 rpm. The boat (hullwise) is still the same so I would expect similar real world results. Not the fastest, but a damn fine ship-had mine 5 years, only problem was the gimbal rings(the boat didn't have a tie bar!).

Let me know if I can answer any more questions,
Paul

I have a 290 with 454 mag EFI's (385hp) and the best I could get out of it was 72. With the 310's I would expect to be in the low to mid 60's with 65 on a real good day.

This is a question for H20WARRIOR. I have a 99 enticer with 310 7.4 mpi roughly 65-68mph but at top speed it chine walks back and forth and is hard to control. I do have tabs on the boat but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm looking into installing superchargers on the engines but other people say the 29 CAN'T handle the speed that the super chargers will produce. These comments were from NON Powerquest owners they suggested to contact someone with the same boat that is 70mph or faster to see what they have to say about this concern. Thank you for any help one suggestion was to use 4 blade props i have 25 3 blades now and she revs 4500rpm (e-mail) [email protected]

I had a 1995 290 with 7.4 carb motors did 64 mph on gps I now have a 1999 290 with 7.4 efi and does 66 mph on gps, they might look the same but they are different, the 1999 is lighter it has a higher x dimension.different stringer system, the 290 were originally designed to run with 350 mags
but everybody kept on asking for big block so the company went with the big blocks.the big blocks make the boat stern heavy a 290 with small blocks doesn't sit in the water as low,
a friend has a 2002 290 with small blocks and he is 2 mph faster with less bow rise,I also know a guy that has a 1996 290 with 454 mags and he is doing about 68.
as far as the chine walk that the design of the 290 it has a pretty good size rocker in the back and with the water chop just right the boat chine walks ,you can drop the tabs down but now youre dragging the tabs in the water and that will slow you down.I put 4 blades on mine and that helped but i lost 2 mph top end.but the boat performance great.
I also have heard that the 290 was droped because of that reason, but now they are thinking of bringing it back as a mid cabin model.
the 290 is a great boat and has a lot to offer ,
just remember that there more to performance then speed.

I had a 2000 29 and the best I saw was 68.6 GPS but most of the time I ran 64 to 66 mph while running 25 pitch 3 blades. I did not chine walk I just set my tabs level with the hull and it ran great. The other thing that was different is that I ran the same speed with a full tank that I did with a 1/4 tank. I will say this that if this is your first quest you will be very happy . Good Luck.

Rich.

Paxtonsc
I feel that the boat can handle the speed but you will have to do some other improvments.
1. External steering
2. Lose the tabs and add K-Planes
3. Always were your kill switchs
4. learn your boat very well first use it for this year and get to know the feel of it. After that maybe think about the chargers. Just so your know I also thought about doing this before I traded and just bought one with blowers

By the way where are you from and where do you boat?
