maintenance questions from a newbie

A few questions for his PQ newbie: As mentioned before, I have a 502 MPI supercharged with the Procharger M1. The charger lubricates directly from the engine (uses about 6 oz of oil). I also have a bravo one XR Drive with a heavy lower unit (I think a speedmaster).

What engine oil should I use? And, what drive lub? Should I use synthetic?

On my cruiser I only have oil pressure, water temp, and volt readings to worry about. My new boat has stuff I'm not familar with. So , what are normal gauge readings (both at cruise and WOT) and danger zone for the following gauges:

Boost? Exhaust temp? Water pressure? Oil temp? Fuel pressure?

Lastly --- I don't think there is a thermostat. I ran the motor off of the hose for about 10 minutes on saturday. My mechanic had a computer hooked up to get actual readings, and the water temp didn't budge. I think the computer was reading something like 60 ish. Should I have a thermostat? Will the temp. go up when running more RPM's? What should my temp readings be.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

you might get more response in the general or tech sections, your questions might be procharger specific.

Thumbs up

For engine oil, I use Mobil1 15W-50, five quart containers from Wally World is best price I've seen.

For Drive oil, I use Amsoil Synthetic marine gear lube..

Here are some answers from a former ProCharger M1 owner and his mechanic, who is also a ProCharger distributor, and installer. Boost at an idle should be 33 to 35 lbs, at WOT (5000rpm) 55 lbs is ideal. Water pressure pressure not to exceed 30 lbs. ( I installed my water pressure gauge, just so I could look at the dash and make sure I had water runninig thru the motor). Oil temp with no thermostat, ( i didn't run one), shouldn't exceed 200 degrees. Make sure the oil is at least warm before jumping on it. We ran 25w-50, in my boat. Synthetic would be best. I would change the oil every 25 hours. If you have any other questions you can call George at Marine Performance Products, 630 240-5401. He's in northern Illinois, and will help you out. Hope this helps, Good Luck !
