280 silencer or 29 enticer
I have been milling around these 2 boats for awhile
I have had a 2000 26 and a 1998 27
I loved the 27 with the 502 motor, had great speed and handling, I prefer the powerquest over other similar boats due to the amount of cockpit space, and the freeboard
they ride awesome.. my question has multiple parts
how does the 28 handle with the step hull
also prefer this to have a 502
also how reliable is this model with the 500hp efi motor
and is there a big difference in speed
as far as the 29, how well does this boat handle compared
to the 28 is it worth having the twins, other than reliability
i cant imagin getting more speed from the 29
just more cockpit and cabin space...
just looking for some insight between the 2 boats
not looking for alot of speed just want a decent ride with
a solid 65 mph

good colors are rare in older powerquests

454 MAG or 502 MAG would be the berries. Especially since those boats might actually have K-planes instead of Boat Leveler tabs on them. They are just hard to find compared to the 7.4L or 7.4MPI boats. I would still take a twin 7.4L 290 over a 280 with a 502. The ultimate 290 would have been one with twin 350HP 377 Scorpions.

I've had both, a 1999 280 with a 502 and a 1996 290 with 454 MPI's (I want to say 310? each). 280 would run 65 mph on the top end, might squeak another 1-2 mph out with no gas and a nice chop. It would lightly chine walk if I had it really trimmed out, a bit of tab and it was solid. Big cockpit and maintenance with the single was the cat's azz.
The 290 felt much, much bigger and heavier - real wave crusher. It was much more tail-heavy than the 280 and maintenance was a serious pain in the ass with the engines stuffed up against the back of the bench; PQ definitely did not have a better idea there. Again the huge cockpit and big cabin. The 290 would run in the 70 mph range, so a bit faster than the 280.
If I had to choose one, I would probably go with the 280 just because I can't afford to pay someone to do the maintenance that is such a beeyotch on the Enticer. That being said, if I could find one with Mags or 502's and real K-planes, that might tip the scales the other way. In your case, I'm not sure the size increase - 280 is pretty close to the 270 in size - would be enough of an "upgrade."

True. The 280 is really only 27'7".
