Gary C, what model K&N filter did you get and where did you pick it up? Also, how much? I didn't know you could pick these up for boats. Was the rpm gain in your opinion consistently there and did you notice any other improvements with it. Thanks.

tlingen,
First I have a carb motor, just making sure you know that. I bought it from CP performence part # 692-59-3370. It is 129.95. I didn't buy it for any gains it just looks good. I was really suprised with the rpm increase. The filter itself is 5 inches and it is 6 3/4 tall total. We have plenty of room in our engine compartments. That is the one K&N recommended. Like I said before, I went from a 21 pitch to a 22. So I gained 150-200 rpms. That's all the time, I can get 5050 with my 22 pitch. As far as speeds go with stock power 60-66 seems to be the limit. Although Jan did some work to his motor and he's hit 67. That's real impressive. He's running a 454 mag efi. Nothing major, some computer and exhaust. I'm hoping to pick up a little with new exhaust, we'll see this spring. There are also some people with superchargers running 75-80. I personally feel 75 is pushing the limits of this hull. I would like to hit 70 without a supercharger but I don't think I have enough cubes. I wish I had the 502But if I can get 65 without major mods I would be happy.Of course we'll never be happy. That's the nature of this obsession of ours

I ran low 70s GPS in a 260 with a 540ci/625 hp a few years back. The boat ran smother in 2-3' chop above 70 mph than it did in low 60s.
If I ever go back to a vee again, PQ will be at the top of my list to consider.

tlingen,
Yes, the mag is 46-5000. The 454mag carb is 350 at the prop. The 454mag efi is 385. I figured it would take 600 plus hp to get this boat in the 70's.
rbtnt,
did you get rid of the wedge on your 260? What are your thoughts on that?

I left the wedges on. They do not touch the water above 70 and they are great for keeping the bow down when taking off. The only problem with the wedges I found was on very smooth water. If you make a turn, the inside wedge might hit the water and start to chime walk if you don't handle it right. No problem if there is a chop. Above 70 and in rough water, I found that if I kept the drive parallel with the boat bottom the boat runs very flat and faster. On flat water, it runs faster with some trim.
My boat liked the bow lift of the mirage plus props and the bravo 1s had too much stern lift.

Thanks for the answer rbtnt. Looks like I have to figure out how I'm gonna break 70 I usually boat in pretty rough water. It does handle it real well for the size of the boat. I did add tabs to my boat. It really didn't need them but they are nice in the rough. So is it true, that once you go cat you never go back
