257-260 Legend questions
New to OSO. Question for any 257-260 Legend owners. I have a 94 257, 454 mag, bravo 1, Mirage plus 21 pitch prop. What type of speed is anyone else getting. Mine is about 58 GPS @ 5050 RPM. Thinking about repitching the 21 to 22. Any thoughts or other speed ideas?

I have a 98 260, with a 454 mag carb. I put a 9x5 K&N filter and had my 21 Mirage plus repitched to a 22 and at 5050 I hit 62.7 GPS as my best. I'm also in Salt water. But in Fresh water in Lake George I hit 62.3. I'm putting on exhaust manifolds this spring. I'm leaning to Stainless Marines. I might try a 23 Mirage plus after the exhaust. I'm gonna go with long risers, so I can change the cam and heads at a later date.

Hey NTP, I know your asking Gary a question, but I have been running the Mirage Plus 21, and the boat handles great at most power settings, prop seems to cavitate a little on tight turns. I am just trying to gain any MPH by tweaking. Does this help any?

With the 23, I have had no issues with cavitation unless I trimmed out too much. Again, I was trying to get a few more MPH out of the boat. The only odd thing is that it started to cavitate or feel like it was losing grip trimmed up a touch above the first notch on the guage. I assumed it would be ok much past that point. The fact is trhat I have nothing to compare it to as this is my first power boat.
Can anyone help us to understand this a little better or do we need to do our own trials ??

I guess I need to get a GPS because I run 58-59mph (03 260 w/ 6.2 or 377ci or 320hp) with a 21p m+. I dont carry a lot of gear and I insist on a thin first mate. Must be because I was heading downstream. (IL river).
Or my speedo is way off!?
NTP, are you saying that you thought the needle on the trim gage would go higher on the gage before the prop came out of the water? If that is the case, that gage is adjustable.
I also have a cavitation problem when turning sharply at speed. However, I haven't had a boat that doesn't. On those hard turns, I just make a habit of tucking the drive under.
260 Owners Unite!!! Meet on Ky. Lake in June?

SB35 tell me more about Kentucky Lake-I'm in MI. I agree with tucking the drive also. Last boat was a 225 crownline bravo 3, turned on a dime-no prop cavitation. Probably has to do with deeper V on PQ.

New to Power,
My boat handles great with the 21. It is an absolute beast out of the hole. I had it repitched to a 22 because I was at the rev limiter. It still comes out of the hole great. I always have my wife and son with me, and at least half a tank of fuel. I run at 3500rpms most of the time. That's right around 40 gps You have more HP than I do so that's why you have a 23. Are you hitting 5000 with that prop? When I added the K&N I picked up more rpm's so now my 22 is still at the rev limit. I can run my boat trimmed all the way up but it does slip a little so I tap it down just a little and I'm hitting 5050. I did try a 24 bravo 1, before the K&N. I got it to turn 4550. The hole shot was a little slower and the speed was 61 on my speedo. I didn't have a gps. But the midrange was awsome. I find the speedo on my boat to be pretty close to gps until 60 then it is about 2-3 mph off on the fast side. I think there is 1-4 mph difference from boat to boat with the same power.
