Default BAJA 272 vs. PQ 280

HELP!!! I can't seem to decide. I'm ready to buy one of these boats, and I change my mind constantly. I want to buy one of these boats this week.
I've also posted this on the BAJA forum.
2000 BAJA Boss Pak, 502 , 140 fresh water hrs looks like new.
2001 PQ also loaded, w/ shore pak and pressure water, 496 MAG HO. 35 hrs.also like new.
BAJA is about 8K less...
PQ is faster...but will ref/microwave bounce all over the cabin???
BAJA much more popular on Long Island, (hardly anyone has ever heard of PQ, although their is now a LI dealer)...probably much easier to sell...
PQ probably better constructed????
PQ new engine tech, closed cooling...
BAJA raw water cooled, will need new manifolds every how many hours???
ANY INPUT FROM YOU GUYS WOULD BE GREAT!!

I owned a 2000 272 before moving up to my 340. I used to run with a 280 with same 502 power and I was just as fast. I would definitely go for the 280. The Baja would beat me to death in the rough stuff. Plus the 496 is well worth the extra coin. You will spend $2K just to replace the POS merc manifolds and risers that come on the 502.

Slider,

I just went through the same ordeal. We were looking at a '04 30 OutLaw pretty hard. We ended up buying a slightly used '03 300 Revenge PQ. It boiled down to money as most things do. We saved a bunch of money on a used boat that was in like new shape.

After the money issues though, we ended up with the closed water cooling (it as available on the Baja but even more $'s) which will save time and money in the long run not to mention resale and we got a boat that is not seen in every cove. The PQ might be a little harder to sell on the other end but we will probably trade it in on our next boat.

The fit and finish is very good and I have dealt with the factory on a couple of questions already and not only received prompt emails back but even a phone call! The customer service is outstanding! I cannot comment on Baja's customer service but simply looking at volume, I doubt that Baja would or could return phones calls the way PQ has done.

Good luck with your search and like I said, I know what you are going through. The buying stress will melt away as soon you take whatever boat you buy out for a cruise.

Dave

I owned a 280 and have ridden a 272.

The PQ rides MUCH better hands down. Better construction, more solid and a huge cockpit.

Get the 280 - you'll be glad you did!

I really appreciate you guys giving me all your input on my Baja/PQ debate, namely... WHOSNEXT,hp500efi,Macklin,Dave98, Gary C, and BillR ( my wife and I love your avatar!!)...
I decided on the PQ, my decision was made easier in no small part do to unanimous agreement in both forums on the PQ, and the experience that you guys obviously have. Are their any PQ's on Long Island?

Slider,
We have a '03 280 Silencer for sale, (we are a PQ Dealer in Amityville, NY). We have several PQ owners on the Island including a 34 Viper and a 38 Avenger. People are definitley going to be asking you were you got such a hot boat. Powerquest is a small builder, because of there attention to detail a 100 boats a year is pretty much max production for them. Let me know if we can help in any way nand good luck!
