paradigm shift

Started a new thread as most of these end up real negative. Hopefully this one will not. We all know the story of those that have bad expierances because like the news that is what gets all air time.

Anyway for the other 29' profile owner looking for 100 mph I would like to see how your project goes. I have a 97 29' and hit a brick wall at about 85mph. I was running about 700hp guessing as the motor was never on a dyno. Boat now has a 502mpi with Tyler Crockett heads and cam. Gas was killing me 2 years ago with the blower and I hurt a couple of pistons during a wekend on the Scaramento Delta but that is another story.

For performance on the 29 I do not know how other 29s ride but mine is flat and wet or a lot of the bottom in the water. Great ride but not the best for speed.

We have over 900hrs on the boat and no real problems that others have had. I new what I was getting when I bought and tha price was right. We really enjoy ours.

I'm sure that there are plenty of satified Profile owners. The problem that had with mine was in no-way the fault of Profile. I'm sure that John (the new owner of Plumb Crazy) will be plenty happy with it when he gets it put back together. I think that their boats are really good looking.


I wonder why there aren't more Profile owners on this (or the other) board... I'm sure they've built a pretty good number of boats over the years. Hopefully they will start showing up.

I have a 94 Profile and am seeing the same problem of trying to get bow lift. Running a blown 540, dyno 800hp (ATECO). Talked to Randy about the boat running uneven, port side low. I have to keep the trim tab down about 2" to keep the boat level. He said to run the lower unit lefthanded. Called and talked to Max Machine and they did not recomend reversing the rotation, therefor at a loss of what to do. Anyone have this problem

We had a 96 29 with a 500hp that did the same thing. Always had to drag the port tab to keep it level, Randy said the same and it was tried and didn't help at all. that was back in 97/98. I would take a look at the strakes are they stright???? I dought it. Also there may be to much hook on the starboard side.

I have a buddy with a profile.. He had the same problem, he switched to a left hand prop and changed the shift cable,, You can test the prop by running the boat in reverse to go forward and forward for reverse. If it cures your problem, change the shift cable.. you don't have to reverse the gears.

Does it get better (or worse) with drive trim? If so, it could be a drive depth issue. The only problem is, if you were to shorten it up, you'd probably have a worse bow lift problem. Maybe a different prop?

It seems to be unchanged at any speed or trim position. Was using a 28 4 blade hydromotive, went to a 28 Mach1 both labbed, don't see any difference. I have thought about trying a left handed prop, but don't want to have a problem with the lower unit. Max Machine said something about the way the cluch was wound that they did not recommend spinning it left handed, Randy said it did not make any difference.

I think the hydromotive Q-IV are stern lifters and the Bravo I's are supposed to be bow lifters. Have you tried a Bravo I? I wonder if Max Machine's setup is different than a bravo. I think they still use a cone clutch, just like a bravo and it is ok to run a Bravo in either direction. Maybe Randy thought that you were running a Bravo drive. I wouldn't want to risk screwing up your drive, if it was me...
