Turbo 1 prop didn't work on my boat
Okay, after hours of searching forums and picking brains I was sure that a Turbo 1 prop would be perfect for my boat. Well, it isn't.
I was looking for something that has good bow lift which I was told the Turbo 1 has. But, it FEELS like the Turbo 1 lifts the whole boat, including the stern, out of the water. When trimmed out you can feel the boat lift and it starts chine walking really bad. Based on feel I think I need a prop that will plant the stern better and lift the bow more. The stock prop was a Viper and it rode flat with just a touch of chine walk. With the Turbo it is much worse.
Kinda bummed cause I layed the money out for a brand new prop thinking it was the one I needed. Is it worth sending in to get re-worked? How much can the characteristics of a prop can be changed? Or should I just continue trying different props til I find a better one?
Thanks

I'd say the Merc. Mirage Plus would be worth a try... but we need more boat info...
What boat?
Length?
Power?
Drive and ratio?
etc......

With a little information I am sure we can help
Waterfouls questions are a great place to start with the addition of prop pitch.

Boat is a small deep V, a Four Winns Unlimited 191.
LOA 19' 2", Beam 7', Deadrise 24*, Dry weight appr 2800lbs, PSHP 320, Gear ratio 1.51, Prop 14.25 x 25 Turbo 1
These boats are known too chine walk a little, and it did very slightly with the stock Viper. But with the Turbo 1 it was out of control. At first I thought I was over-trimming because the prop was too big, but the gauge and my "roost/wake" did not indicate that. I am going to try the stock Viper prop today back to back with the Turbo.
Like I said to me it feels like the Turbo 1 is lifting the stern too much and causing the boat to walk.
FY!: I put a 3rd person in the boat who sat in the back seat. He weighs about 220 and with him in there the boat was moe stable.

Those hulls have alway favored the Mirage propellers.
Is the 25P allowing the engine to run in the proper range?

Re: Turbo 1 prop didn't work on my boat
Brett, too be honest I am not sure. It definitely seemed like it but after just a few seconds at 4800-5000 she'd start dancing so I'm not 100% sure.
I'm going out tonight after work and I'm going to test the stock prop and the Turbo 1 back to back. I am going to do wide-open runs keeping track of the rpms, speed and trim angle from 4000-5000 rpm.
I was leaning toward the Mirage Plus but a few people told me the Turbo 1 would give me the same performance and a more stable ride.

Re: Turbo 1 prop didn't work on my boat
Did some testing today. Here's the numbers. Should be pretty close, the water was kinda snotty. 2 1/2' washing machine chop. Fun as hell but hard to read gauges!
These are WFO runs trimming up to the desired rpm.
Viper
4400 - 58mph
4600 - 60mph
4800 - 62mph
5000 - 65mph
5100-5200 - 68mph
Turbo 1
4200 - 59mph
4400 - 62mph
4700-4800 - 66
My boat is much more stable with the stock Viper. But, I definitely have to trim the Turbo a lot more which could be why the boat doesn't handle as well.
I am trimmed out more at 47-4800 rpm on the Turbo run than when I am running 51-5200 rpm on the Viper run. I am thinking the 25 is too big requiring too much trim. I'm thinking a 23 or 24 Turbo 1 MIGHT work. But. will I get any more speed out of it? For not being a "performance" prop I'd say the Viper does pretty well. If they made a 25 Viper I'd be all over it!
Here's a question that puzzles me. How can a 23 Viper and 23 Turbo turn the same rpm when the Turbo has significantly more blade area?
