Default Mirage? Mirage Plus or Bravo 1 prop????????

I own a 1997 Powerquest Legend with a 454mag EFI, Bravo drive and currently spinning a 23p Mirage Plus. All in all a very good prop all the way around. But as always would like a little more top end. In the spring I'll see 61-63mph at 4800 RPM. The other day we were out with 2 adults,3 children and 1/2 tank of fuel, 85deg 1' chop and near 100% humidity and at 4800rpm saw 60mph. But it did take some time and fine trimming. I believe the the mag efi has an operating range between 4800 and 5000 rpm. My thought was maybe to go to a 22p Mirage Plus? Wondering if any of you prop guys have had any experience with the boat and stock setup??

Typically the Powerquest boats perform well with Bravo I propellers. You have 14% slip which is OK. We typically see 10% to 14% slip with 4B propellers. However if your goal is top end then you need to run a little higher RPM so a 22P Bravo I should get you pretty close.

Going down in pitch to a 4BL will not give you more top end speed.

If you can turn a higher pitch propeller at the same rpm or increase the rpm of your current propeller without sacrificing efficiancy, you will go faster.

Concider Labbing your prop, or I really like Labbing a 24P Bravo 1 as an option

My last Powerquest I played with props a bit before I sold it. It orginally came with a Mirage 23p, I tried a 21p with no luck and tried a Bravo1 4 blade with terrible results. Gave to much lift in the stern for a very poor ride and very difficult to keep the bow planted. Now that was with an older hull style the 23 Conquest. So I'm not sure how the newer style hull will ride with the 4 blade. If I lab the 23 Mirage Plus will that gain any RPM's and whats the cost?

I had a 97 260 with a 454 mag carb. It did best with a 21" Mirage plus. The 4 blades give too much stern lift for the 260. I tried several props. Maybe a labbed 23" Mirage Plus would be your best shot.

RBTNT, Thanks for confirming my thoughts. Props are always a pain and it always helps if you can talk with someone that's been down the same road with the same boat. My wife nearly killed me last time when we went out after I swapped props and went from a 3 to 4 blade. So much for slipping it by!

If your happy with the way your current prop carries the boat I would get it labbed. That should give you another 200-300 rpm and a couple mph. When you start switching props you can open a can of worms! Trust me, I know. I've had 5 different props on my boat in the last month!

Labbing your Mirage Plus will get you to the top of your rpm band and most likely give you a few additional mph. It will most likely not help your cruising speed. You may even lose a mph. The Bravo 1 will improve your cruise speeds but may hurt your top end unless you go up in pitch and have it Labbed. We charge $300 to Lab Finish your Mirage Plus.

I have a 2003 260 with 496 375hp. Currently running a 23p labbed mirage+. GPS says 59 at 4800ish rpms. Hole shot and mid-range could use some improvements. Thoughts on a 21p Rev4?

The Rev 4 is worth trying since your slip is a little high.
We have these props for testing through our test program if you are interested.
