Bravo3 30" props vs. Bravo3 27" XR props
How would the stock bravo3 30" props compare to the new bravo3 XR 27" props behind an HP525 bravo3 2.0R combo on a heavy 25" deep vee Formula 252LS?
From what I hear is that the efficiency of the new 27" XR props that they would pull similar WOT RPM's than the regular 30" duo props?
I can pull an indicated 5,150 RPM's at WOT with a cupped 30.5" duo prop and I am looking for an extra 200 RPM's at WOT.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamal

The 27's will most likely raise the rpm at least 300.

Re: Bravo3 30" props vs. Bravo3 27" XR props
Oh Brett,
I'm on Greg (with the Crownline) like a hawk to see how his props work out. So far the report is that they are working great with no sign of any cav burn.
Mine, the ones I talked to you about last year, were done by. Started burning again (knew that was coming) and cracked but still holding together. I have a new Merc cupped rear prop I'm hoping to get out of the box and on the boat to test some this weekend. Once I test and get some data (both with the current labbed front prop and a standard virgin front), I may be calling to have you do your magic to mine.
If that works as well as it seems they are for Greg, that may keep me from going the nosecone route.

Re: Bravo3 30" props vs. Bravo3 27" XR props
From the limited information that I found on the bravo3 XR drive is that it also comes with a 2.0 ratio.
Since it was made for the HP525 application, I do not understand that the 27" XR prop is the largest offering...unless it performs similar the a regular 30" duo prop?
Has anyone compared the 27" XR prop's perfomance vs. a 28" duo prop?

Re: Bravo3 30" props vs. Bravo3 27" XR props
I found that strange also. I thought if maybe I hit somehting in these low assed lakes around here, that would give ne an excuse to replace the drive with an XR. But with a 2:1 GR and a 27p prop, I'd be spinning mine to 5500-5600 RPM. I don't get it.
I know of one person that had both 27 XR's and 28 standards. With the 27XR's he lost 100 RPM. However, the 28's are trued, cleaned up and polished so it's posible he's getting a little more out of them over stock.
From his take, the XR's seemed to bite better but in his case, the lower RPM was the wrong direction. I'm trying to get to his commentary on them but the site is down. I sold him the 28's so he's changed props a couple times. I found out he was selling the XR's after he'd already sold them. I was goig to give them a try, knowing I'd be too high wiht RPM.
Seems like you might be able to work the 27's up??? Maybe get them worked to turn more like 30's? It would be nicer with 29's.

Initially my vote to make 29's and 31's was shot out of the sky. I'll try to advise otherwise again (like that will matter). However, much bigger frying going on now than to worry about B3's at Merc (in their eyes).

Re: Bravo3 30" props vs. Bravo3 27" XR props
I had a similar thought about mixing my 28P and 30.5P's.
My thought here was that the bravoIII has more drag and that the front prop being 1st to plow through the water would be creating most of the drag.
So my thought was to try a 28P at the front followed by a 30.5P rear prop. The rear gives the final thrust and top end, right?
Then I noticed that the new XR props have a 4 blade front with a 3 blade rear....why would you want more bite/drag from the front prop?
Now I am more confused than ever
Jamal
