Hydromotive P5 & P5X
Anyone have experience using these props? What is your application? I am thinking of trying and compare to a Bravo. When do you use the P5 vs. the P5X?
I have -2" Imcos on 2001 Fountain Classic. My slip at speed was 14% with stock 32 Bravos at 5600 rpm. Running 700 hp/engine at 5800 rpm. Thanks.

I'm running a 26' P5X in my 288 Sunsation with 750hp. The p5 is a stern lifting prop, and the p5X is a bow lifting prop.
If you have no steps I would guess that a p5X would work well, but it would be just a guess.
My hull wants a bow lifting prop. I am turning my p5X around 5600 rpm! I have tried a Bravo one labed 30 and like how it feels better. My rpm's are down to 5300, and the boat is faster. Even axcelerates faster! The boat is more loose however, but not to loose.
The P5X feels like the boat is stuck to the water more. The hull is definetly more stable, but slower.
Hope that helps a bit....

Both propellers will lift the stern. The X version will give you a little more reaction with the trim button.

Correct, more blades will lift the stern more. If the boat carries the bow well on its own under way, the overall lift will be a advantage. If the boat needs bow lift the 5 blade props could reduce efficiancy.
The X version P5 has a rounded blade which can hold the water longer when trimming. This can leverage the stern more creating higher bow rise.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, the 5 blades are great props with high (18"+) X dimensions.
I'm turning a 28" P5-X 5800/6000 depending on load, and the handling is excellent. I just ran a 29", it ran similar @ 5700.
I also have friend who runs a 42' Fountain with modified 575s with 30" P5-Xs and his boat runs great too (low to mid 90s).
Modified Bravo 1s will work on my boat too, but they are more weight sensitive, and they don't handle as well as the P-5s.
They are definitely worth a try if your using -2" Imcos.
Regards,
Steve
