Question Polishing prop hub area, any advice??

Ive been working on the inside of my props trying to polish it out like the blades,This grade of stainless is TUFF.Any ideas?

Ive done the sanding working my way up etc, just cant get it to a mirror.

I figure it will help on looks when your looking at the props the first 2-3in show.

Thanks

Can you please take that third pic again and move the camara up a bit. That's a nice buffer but we want to see who's wearing those red shoes.

Mothers Power Ball Mini, agressive fast cut compound, then metal polish. I polished up a set last summer and it worked pretty well. I would think the mini ball would get in there and work for you.

+1 on moving the camera up.

My brother-in -laws NAPA store!

Seriously, 3M has a product refered to as "fast cut compound". It's ment for paint as a first step but works real well with a buffer and with the little power ball deal as well. On a stainless prop you would need to work out the chit with sandpaper first, as Strip here has done, then have at it with this. Then move on to a real metal polish. Any auto body/parts store should have 3M products. If you need a part number I can look in the goody box, I always have a bottle in stock, along with Finess-it and UltraFina. I'm a big 3M fan when it comes to compounds and polishing products. Maguires and Colonite when it comes to wax.

The blade area is easier to polish,Ive already been using the sasil buffing wheel and tripoli.I wonder if it has a grain?

the mothers ball, polish is not coarse enough, thats what i used on the blower for the first cut to get out the water spots.Ill try it and see though

At my shop we use Semi-Chrome to polish our molds to a mirror finish. We work up using different Diamond polish compounds and then finish it off with Semi-Chrome. We make clear plastic lenses for automotive headlamps. This works on stainless, H-13, P-20 S-7 all different grades of steel. A lot of the Harley guys also use it.
Hope this helps,
Jason
You can get it at a local Harley shop.

Also a 20,000 RPM die grinder and a 1"-2" buffing wheel always works good with the Semi-Chrome.

We use compounds from Formax as well as others when customers request the mirror finish.

Hi-Polish on blade area hurts performance. It looks great on the trailer during the 4th of July parade but increases slip under certain loads.

Each his own. Thats why we do it when requested.
