Formula 242ls propping

Hey all, i'm looking for some advice on my next prop. I have an 87 formula 242ls with 454 and alpha drive. I didn't really get to use the boat that much this year, because i've been fighting oil pressure issues, and ended up pulling the motor. i didn't really get a base run to see what rpm i'm running, but the little bit i did use it, it seemed sluggish out of the hole and didn't seem to want to build any rpm's. although, this could be that the motor had some issues too.

I bought the boat with a slightly damaged prop, so i'm looking to replace it with a new one. i currently have a quicksilver mirage 48-13700-A40 19P (not mirage plus). my dad has a spare quicksilver 48-16318-A4 21p that i was thinking of trying. do you think it would be worth a try? i've read on here that most 242 people run 21's, but they are mostly using a mirage plus on bravo drive. what should i be using on my alpha setup? any ideas/recommendations would be greatly appreciated

You want to use a mirage plus. The 21 plus will most likely be your prop. Try the prop your dad has. if it's not a plus subtract 200 rpms for a plus prop. I'm in the middle of finding a prop for my modded 242. For me it seems that a 21 is my best prop also but I'm spinning mine to 6000 rpms. Either way you should see about 53 mph with a 330 454.

Once the engine issues are solved, the rpm the 19 Mirage you own runs, will help us to get to the best idea of the next propeller to try.

I like the Mirage Plus on your hull. We just need to get the correct pitch casting (depending on rpm) and can then dial it in specifically to your desires.
Let us know if you need props to test with.
