Muscar311,

Ran the stock bravo1's today, 22p at 4500 rpm, FULL tank if gas at 58 mph WOT. Nice Holeshot, better stability/cruise than the "old" quicksilver's. Nice rooster tail too...

See if you can try a set of 23 or 24 Hydromotives, I think you'll like the way the run on your boat.

Default build

endeavour32,
Tell me about your upgrade build over the winter the the mags. I thinking to go that route, not to crazy, 70mph is fine for me and family...58 not acceptable now. My blocks are fresh but still non mags, heads arent -one large oval the other a peanut oval...carbs jst rebuilt. Stock exhaust.

Or should I start from a 502 block and work from there. are the wider? Seems no room as it is.

It was a pretty mild build. Basically the bottom end is all stock. I had the block honed and cleaned, the rotating assemblies balanced. Then new bearings and rings. The heads were rebuilt and I installed new isky retainers and keepers as well as new isky springs.
The carbs are HP 500 carbs
intakes are Edelbrock RPM's (I think the stock intake manifolds would be fine)
Gil Exhaust

The biggest change was the valve train. I got a set of Reed roller cams that were ground for a 509 blower engine from Mild Thunder. The grind was 231/237, .578/.578 lift at 112. I'm running Morel roller lifters and Crane Gold rockers 1.7/1.8 ratio. I really haven't totaled up what I have into the engines but I would say close to $5-6000.00 when it was all said and done.

If you could find a set of merc 525 cams they would be a good choice in my opinion for a budget build and I believe are very close to what I'm running. Is your boat the one that has the Mag engines with the Comp Cams? if so, you may be able to just swap your cam over to a roller set up and be good to go.

Plan on the following- 2 new cams, roller rockers, roller lifters, push rods, new springs, retainers and locks, timing set and new timing cover (for roller cam). Plan on about $4000 for those parts, and that would be if your can find the cams used for about $150 per cam. If your running the stock exhaust plan on another 1000-1500 for Gil or equivalent exhaust.

Thanks for all the info.
My blocks are fresh but still non mags with 50 hours on them- though my mechanic thinks the cam is non stock but would have to rip apart to get numbers.... mike

Thats a 22 pitch left hand QIV. I think thats way to low of a pitch, with 330's I was spinning 24's @ 4600 RPMs. Look for a set of 24's nothing smaller than 23's. As long as you get a good deal on them you can recoup the money if they don't work. A good price this time of year would be $500 for a pair. Anything less would be a killer deal, IMO.
