Default What a sweet augmented pair …

Get your minds out of the gutter. Lol
Just got back from the prop shop.
Picked up my Ron Hill 3 blade prop (really an OJ). Bought it as a “best guess” off of eBay last year for $125 for the Biesemeyer project. Worked OK this summer but I’m sure it was leaving something on the table. I’m also sure it didn’t help bouncing it off the bottom the last time out too. So I had it bent from a 13X15 to a 13X17 with some cupping added and cleaned up.
Also I picked up my new 2 blade I got off of eBay a week or two ago. Paid 50 bucks for it and looked like it. Edges looked like a serrated knife not to mention the bends and such. I guess it came off the Sanger after they drug it across a parking lot. The seller also had no clue what pitch it was but for 50 buck I took the chance. After a week I got it here and started to see if I could fix it (I’ve fixed a few on my own, it’s not that hard after a few lessons) but this was just so bad and after measuring the pitch (check this site out for that http://www.propellerhub.com/measuring-pitch.html) I had to take it elsewhere. It’ was a 12X14 and a 12X14.5 (like I said it was bent) and one of the blades had a small crack and chip. 125 bucks later I have a perfect 12X17. You would never know any of the things I listed above was ever wrong with it. A 17P was the most they felt comfortable bending it. The way I look at it if I’m using it instead of the 3 blade the rpm difference will a good thing. Still not bad for a total of $175.00 like new out of the box.

Before,

After,

I am always amazed that prop shops can take what looks to me like a paperweight and make a perfect prop out of it.

Very pretty.
I still find it funny how shops have decided to scuff the leading edge of the propellers they repair.
Hering has done that on their new propellers all along and now many shops do/copy that. There is no performance enhancement what so ever. They say copying something is the biggest type of compliment.
Our issue with it is if the scuff marks are at all too deep, they are stress risers and can cause cracks. Unfortunately I have seen this happen more than once.
But, again very pretty.
