Hering 28p 5 blade questions??

I just bought some used 28p 5 blade 20 rake Hering's. I got a few questions

Does Hering put their name on the props beside the serial #?

Do they cut the defuser rings off or do I need to cut it off with this design prop? I know on the maximus props they do recommend cutting them off for my Hustler.

On these props is it normal for the inside of the defuser ring, hub area to be pitted this bad,or is it from rusting? Ive been polishing it trying to get it smooth, Im not sure if its just from the casting process? (see picks)

They had some pretty heavy sand bar scratches in then, Ive got about 4 1/2 hours of polishing in them ,I think i got them back in shape as close to new as I can get them,
also what do you think of the way I did the leading edge surface? its not perfect but

I hoping to do some testing tonight and compare.

Thanks for any input/suggestions

Rob

Also my prop slip now w/ 30p 4b barvo is 20%

Hey Rob.

Hering now electro-etches their name in the top of the trailing edges on #6 props. Looks cool.

Serial numbers are only on the props over the last 4 or so years since they determined it is good to be able to track something. Always surprised me they didn't do it for well over a decade prior.

Diffuser ring lengths are more specific than cut off or leave on. There is a long story about the Max ring and diff rings in general in this forum. Recommending it cut off has layers. Who is they that recommend cutting off on the 388? Do a search back in this forum and you might find volumes I have written. So, In your case, leave it as is, for now. It is short and non obtrusive.

The LE scuff mark/line is just a signature and really has no value. IMO it is a stress riser waiting to crack. I hope you used a fine grit.

Have fun and I think they'll run fine.

Brett

I would like to know more about diffusers if you would like to share. I know my cat likes stern lift and it seemed to run the best ever with a 5 blade Maximus with what looks like the longest diffuser ever. The prop still had a fair amount of cup also.

I've shared here on this forum for 10 years. Hard to believe........

Do a search for information in the prop forum. The stories are actually quite humorous at times. I guess all the stuff won't show up without the perfect search.

Or, call me and I can be more intimate with the specifics for your or any other set up.
13 hour work day needs to end now. Talk soon.

Thanks for the info, we had talked about the ring on the max props, that it gave Stearn lift and im thinking it has to much naturally in the hull design,i did a light bead blast in the edge to give it that look then hit it with some 500grit, ss# said 2010 props

I did a little running and it seems to be just a little more bite getting on plane, but i babby it anyway getting on plane, cruz speed seems better and more hooked up, flat water and hot it was 88mph at 5000, it defiantly has more acceleration, ill roll thru peak tq and then nail it and it took off pretty good, seem to handle more trim w/ no negative effect, when running above 90 it seemed more stable and no porpoising,Im sure my 2005 30pt 4bl props blade are flatened out with the prop slip so high?

It might be a little too much prop,I could tell it was hooked up more and seemed lugged down around 5600, but with the bravo 30's it doesn't pull past 5800 98-101mph in the heat either.

in the cooler water/air and some chop it should buz up, ill play with it some more and try get some comparison in speed

thanks for any sugestions

Rob

Hering never put serial numbers on their propellers for years. Most prop guys don't or at least didn't until recently. I always found that weird since we have serialized everything since day one. We always serialized our props at Merc Racing when I was there too. Hering also began electro-etching their name on the trailing edge recently as well.

Your numbers are both a date code and a pitch. Yes, they are 30 pitch.

I noticed on the last pokerrun a few boats had added or extended the diffuser ring, what would that do?

What would I need to do to get a few more rpm?

Here is a pick of the etch on blade, prob would be if you ever had the prop worked on it would be gone or polish it off

When I talked to herring they said they do not lab props for a particular boat, I would think one boat would need more or less bow or stern lift
