Default What prop to use challenger ddc 28 ?

Very close friend of mine bought a challenger 28. Has a 496 ho spins a 4 blade 26. Hits the rev limiter 5100 at 61 mph. When he told me that, i thought something was wrong for a 26 at 61 mph. I asked him the drive ratio and it is a 1.65.... Are tehy all built like like? I would have bet it was born with a 1.5 no?
So any ways, what prop should be the best one with that 1.65 ratio? Or what prop is used with a 1.5 ratio

I was Challenger dealer for years. I actually kept one 28 for myself for certain reasons. Anyways I have the 375hp - 496 spinning a labbed 26 Bravo 1 that will hit the limiter as well 4960 rpms according to scan and smartcraft gauge. I get 62 mph out of it. also Depending on year because certain things change with the boat. Mine is a 2007.

If you like, I will need HIN number of the hull and engine serial number.

Are you sure that you have the HO MAG 496 - 425 hp -

does the owner know how to trim this boat DDC hull also what shape is the prop in ? also is the prop LH or RH rotation. and what brand prop . -

Also bravo X outdrive 1.50 ratio was to be on it from the get go if in fact its the 496 HO MAG 425 hp - Again are you sure that u have a HO MAG ? I can careless what the top cover of the engine displays - what PCM 555 is on the sticker and or if you plug into the scan tool, it will tell you the version of the engine.

Hull chr00128d607
Engine 0W628201
Prop is a bravo 1 26 pitch not sure lh or rh

Thanks for checking!

With your info, it might well be a regular 496 non ho model!

your boat was made in April 2006 and if I recall that was when hull / boat weight was different. And not by a couple of pounds either. Possible I know your 28 or even had it at one time but do not know as all my records are put in storage. I will run the engine serial number and see what comes up. Do not know if it is OEM stock for the engine. also where and or whom did your buddy buy it from ??

If this engine can actually run or get up to a true 5100 rpms then no way it has the 375 hp 496 and or that PCM 555. That rev limiter for a OEM stock HO MAG 425 hp comes in at 5150 / 5160 rpms. Maybe the PCM has been changed out ??? have no idea as I am sure this boat thas been passed around.

I ran the engine serial number and it is a 496 Mag. Not HO. Originally registered in Canada
This means the HP is 375 and the rev limiter should be 4900.

Anyway, your slip is a little high with either gear ratio. There isn't a go to prop dependent on gear ratio. You prop to achieve the rpm you need no matter what the ratio is.

Yeah like I said to begin with --- check to make sure whether its a HO or just a MAG --- and no way the 375 hp 496 will even hit 5100 rpms with a stock PCM cal. No way period.

AND that is the correct ie standard gear ratio for the 496 mag 375 hp 1.65

I see in your in your pic that the 28 has Smart craft / gauges - in which is pretty darn accurate.

60 thru 64 mph is dead on with the 375 hp 496 for a 28 Challenger DDC late 2005 thru 2008 models depending on Many things.

Also if you have 2 fairly heavy batteries or more - move them closest to the middle and possible under the bench seat or lowest as possible. Do not heavy load the stern in these 28's.

Also that dash and gauges in your pic are the exact same color and set up I have as well. I would like to see the pics of the boat as I bet I know it very well.

PM me if you want cause I also have a lot of prop testing with these hulls and set ups. Many are not familiar with the boat or hull design or set up just saying as words to help out.
