Thinking about a Pro Charger

Hey guys,

A buddy of mine found a nice M1 Pro Charger that only has a couple hours on it for 2K with the whole set up. Wondering what the 28 would do with this and if i would have any problems with my drive or have you guys had any experience with a big single running mid 70's? I am at 500hp now with a stock Bravo One w/o ext steering. With 4-5 lbs of boost what do ya think I would get up to, being conservative with it. I am running 63-64 gps at 5K RPM now.

Dont have any experience with superchargers but it seems like an easy way to gain HP w/o a ton of expense. Whats your opinion on reliability? Thanks, MIKE.

I say go for it, you might want to look into the correct cam and valve springs and valves if your motor does not currently have them that is where most problems start with chargers. if your easy on your drive you should get by for now, I know plenty of people with single 28s with big strocker motors and stock bravos getting by. You should go to a add on steering system, its much nicer. Your boat will run bad ass in the mid 70s your x-demension is a bit low, I would say you will probibly see low 70s but for 2k its a cheap 8-10 mph

Thats another thing i was thinking about is a shorty and what that would do for top end. I do like the deep x-dim when running in the rough stuff though, thats when i want another 5-0 when in the 3's & 4's. I think Im gona pick it up anyways and try it and see what happens. For the investment im pretty sure i could get my money back if it doesnt perform the way i want it. MIKE

Not knowing anything about your motor & its internals ect... its kinda tough to see how good of a match it would be.. But heres a shot... I wouldn't think the M1 is gonna to make a ton of boost on your motor without spinning it real hard due to the size of it... (which may actually be what you are looking for ?) Does the setup have an intercooler with it ??
What is the compression ratio of your motor ??
What heads are on it ?? Cast right ??

As for the drive it would be stressing a stock bravo pretty hard to run 600-625hp orso through it on a single 28 especiallay in those 3-4's you are talking about... I am NOT saying it can't be done or will not last but you would have to be easy on it in my opinion....

I myself would love to see what your boat would do with a 2" or even a 1" shorty on it... I can't remember off the top of my head what your X is at but I do remember us talking about this here before , & I do know that it is pretty low....

I do know of a certain yellow boat thats owner set his X a good bit higher & just so happens to have a rather large centrifical hanging off the side of the block...
However if that same certain person would get his boat done things would be much better & he could give you some good valuable info instead of his theretical ramblings....

Also I don't know your exact plans but I would reccomend that if you decide to go with the shorty & the blower & if you happen to get both them at the same time I would Highly reccomend that you do those one at a time... If that is the case I personally would put the shorty on first & see how the boat reacts to it... Also for the sake of the longevity of the drive it would probably like the shorty better with the blower & would stress it a bit less.... Just my 2 cents.....

Maybe i should just hold off intill you get yours done then

I think im gonna put the ProCharger on first (start with a 2k investment before a 7K investment) and maybe just run 3lbs of boost, take it easy and see what i get. When i get some extra cash built up then shop for a drive that would take the extra boost.

The charger does have an intercooler, i believe i am at 9:1, and yes, cast heads, and a 7 1/2" x-dim.

At the rate I feel I've been going this summer if you waited on me to get mine done you may be running an electric blower that injects a 50% ethanol & compost mixture.....lol...

If you could find a good used XR with a shorty already on it that would definatly be the way to go..

If you are at 9:1 & it has an intercooler you should be ok as long as everything is setup right , & your motor is currently in good shape , & you are not trying to spin it 100,000 rpm's trying to make 10 lbs of boost.... Be sure to have plenty of fuel system to go with it & make sure to pull the timing back on the motor..

I would advise against it. Unless you can afford to do a new motor/rebuild if it blows? I'd rather have 500hp and be on the water, then a "iffy" 600-625hp engine coupled to a bravo. I think there is more speed in your current setup
