LR3 Towing a Scarab

Guys, Can my LR3 tow a Scarab 29 triple axle trailer with brakes? It has a max trailer towing weight of 7700lbs and max tongue weight of 500lbs.
I want a 29 scarab but I dont really want to have ot buy a bigger tow vehicle.

LR transmissions are not exactly stellar to begin with, the strain of a 29 foot boat might not make it happy. The all wheel drive could also be a little miffed with that kind of weight.

Re: LR3 Towing a Scarab

Actually, its the new version of the discovery. Everywhere else in the world its the Discovery III, but here in america us buyers like number and letter combos for our car names.

I used to have a 2002 Disco SE7 and loved it. Good luck with the LR3, if I ever go back to an SUV, its the one I'd buy.

By the way, if it tows anything like the Disco I wouldn't tow too far. Short wheel base. It was great for my 22', but if I still had the disco theres no way it would tow my 28'.

I think you'll be pushing the limits.
If you are not going more than a few miles you'll probably be ok.

My buddy pulls his 28 magnum w/ a Toyota 4runner (v6).
And has done long distances... trailer is old too.
But I think he's nuts.

Re: LR3 Towing a Scarab

Sounds like the wheel base is short and that does not make for good towing. But it is a range rover and they do very well off road so if you want to try go ahead. Or just Buy and older beater pick-up for the boat.

Thanks for the input guys. I really like the scarab 29 but i cant justify owning another vehicle. I will probably look at the Baja 25 outlaw. Might fit my tow vehicle better than the 29 and it sounds like it has good performance.
