Scarab III Prop question
I just purchased a 1986 Scarab III a few weeks ago and am having a problem with the boat getting on plane. It has twin 330's and stock TRS drives. The props are 23 cleavers. My top speed is 53 mph. I was hoping for a little better out of the hole performance. I posted in the general forum and they told me to post over here as well.
What prop would be the best/what speed can I hope for? I was told that the Mirage props are good.....,
Also, How can I tell which 454 motors I have? I was told by the broker that it was 330, but I want to know for sure.
Thanks,
Brandon

Re: Scarab III Prop question
I have basically the same setup with 400 hp motors. I am running 23P Mirage 3 blade. If you do have the 330's, you would probably need to be in the 21P range with a 3 blade prop.
Your speed won't be much different but the low and mid range will be a ton better.

Re: Scarab III Prop question
I know you posted a while ago but I just joined.
I just bought an 87 that had the same configuration and problems as yours. The shop determined the stock water pickups were the culprit. They were disrupting water flow to the props. Mine were replaced with modern stainless ones and the boat planes easily.
Something to consider.
