1999 33' Wellcraft Scarab "No Free Rides" - 2" 502 Mag MPI's
33 Prices Dropping ? ? ? ? ?

I've been looking at 29's but really wishing for a 33. I just could not justify the additional $30k or so. Now this one comes along. Appears to be a SUPER CLEAN 98 with only 225 hours. Anyone know or have seen this one? Makes some of the 29's, especially the single engine ones look a bit pricey.

i've been looking for a 33 on and off for a while. according to my local wellcraft dealer the main reason the AVS were stopped being made was due to a few instances where the hooked and flipped. the 38 is an awesome boat, but the 33's take some finessing. i've been on a few of them and never saw an issue. just telling you what i was told by a 20 plus year wellcraft dealer.

if your going to buy a 29..buy 1 with twin small blocks. i had a 98 with twin 350 mags and bravos and loved it. super fuel efficient, and the 2nd engine really balanced the boat well. i ran a couple single 502 boats and they didnt feel balanced as well as the twin small block boats. not to mention peace of mind having the 2nd engine to rely on. both boats run almost identical mph...70

after 13 years with the Twin Eng Regal I only had an issue once... plan to boat on Travis in Tx Galv Bay and just looking for biggest boat that will still move decent with a single powerplant. Was "asked" to sell the Donzi after only 2 summers basically because of the speed. 6 1/2 YO Co capt will be prime rider.... until we can pick up single mommies and their daughters without him running and telling "our" mommie ! ! !

On the single 29's did they run "fairly well.stable" up into the mid to higher 50's?

Re: 33 Prices Dropping ? ? ? ? ?

had a 1999 33 avs miss that boat ran it in the gulf and the icw would get a little chine walk at 72 and could drive out of it. had twin 502efis. Miss that boat the most easy to trailer and always turn key reliable. The 29's are nice but I would for twins as well, like said a little better ballanced out also if you break one you can still limp home. Both are driver friendly around the docks and the 33 will take a few minutes more to was than the 29.

both 29's were stable BUT the twin 350 boat felt better planted and much easier to manuever

33's & 38's are nice boats and you should be able to buy them right since they have not made Scarab's since 03. I would think the 99 - 01 would probably be built the best because the AVS was introduced in 98 and by 02 & 03 they knew they were about to stop production of the Scarab's. The 99's & 00's would probably have a little different paint job too.

Scarab's had some cool paint jobs from 95 - 2000.
