To the OP, I read this thread 2 years ago and didnt respond then. Big fail!
Have an 87 Scarab 1 O/B, Merc Laser 220hp. Motor finally blew last season, had it torn down and rebuilt with a little extra umpph (cut heads, intake spacer, balanced internals, etc). Added 10" of setback and it made a HUGE difference in performance, this thing is a new boat. Handles much better than before when trimmed up and still working on finding the right prop for it, motor was finished and broken in over the weekend of Sept. 10-12. With the factory prop and the motor 4" above stock location (I have a 25" shaft, 2:1 gears if anyone wants to compare) with a 21p POS stainless prop Merc prop I blew through the 6300rpm rev limiter to 6500rpms (ECU commands injectors 100% all the time) at 52-53mph, before the rebuild I would only get 5700-5800rpms so major improvement. Then with a big Merc Revolution 4 23p (15.25" diameter prop, factory was 14.5") it spun 5700rpms to 57mph. So looking for a BIG 4 blade prop, probably in the 21p range to manhandle this boat, they're HEAVY for a 21 footer!
Sorry for the rant, is my parents first boat (its older than me by a year ha) and they bought it new in 88 as an 87. New interior followed in 2004/5, been tracking down engine woes for probably 10 years (so having it running like a top is great), other than that the boat is pretty stock for now. Needs a cut/buff like nobody's business, but sitting in the sun for 3 months a year will do that after 22 years. Transom is still solid, the mechanic doing all the engine repair checked everything before hanging the 10" jackplate/setback to make sure the hull could handle it.
Ill get a few pics in the spring, boat's down in Portland, OR getting a final few engine tweaks (solid motor mounts, new high amp charging system, dual batteries, etc) for the winter but will be back in Coeur d'Alene, ID come Memorial Day!

Edlebrock Performer intake is fine for your set-up, and probably the best intake you can get for your motor. That said, a lot of people want to go bigger and get a Performer RPM. You can't go wrong either way.
Make sure you get a set of Vortec heads or aftermarket heads, or all your upgrades are going to be more or less worthless. The heads are your weakest link right now and they're the biggest reason you only have 260 hp. If you just swap the heads you'll get more Hp than if you do everything else and leave your old heads.
I have a set of SBC vortecs in the garage. You can have them for $250 complete if you can't find some locally.
