Default Blown 496 in a 1997 22' SCARAB ???

Hey i'm looking at a 22' 1997 scarab to purchase..... Here is the deal I have a blown 496 BBC that has approx, 1k HP can this boat handle an upgrade like that? Will the bravo drive handle the power? I am looking to get into a offshore type boat this would be my first. Delta, lake and river mostly. What do you think? I can pick it up for asking price of $18,000 7.4 mpi, Silent choice exaust, bravo drive perfect condition. GOD what an ugly dash!!!

Your joking right?

That boat with that power is just a disaster waiting to happen and someone WILL get hurt. The 22 Scarab is a nice looking boat but your right, the dash is somewhat dated. However, there are all kinds of things to do to dress up the dash.

That boat is not designed to take on that sort of power.around 70ish the boat is squirrley.Be careful if you do decided to put that kind of power to it.

Yeah, I would say 1000 hp is both dangerous and unusable in a 22' Scarab. The hull is nice but I believe 75-80 mph MAX!!!!. Want to go faster? look into a 23'Scarab instead. The longer hull and extra 500 or so lbs. will make it a better choice. They go almost 75 out of the box with a 502 mag I think. Plus they are rare as hell. I have only seen 2 ever(and maybe it was the same one) A white one in Havasu about 8 years ago,and at the Huntington Beach POPRA race in 2001.....Mike

I met a guy who had 540cid 800hp in his. The thing was a handful over 85. I think he ended up putting some huge K-planes on it becuase it would chine walk all over the place.

NO way. My 23' SCS hull is a hell of a ride at anything above 80 mph (blown 509). Buy a cat with that kind of power.

Then again, it is a hell of a novelty. If you don't try to go 120 mph and kill yourself, you can prop it ,cruise it to 80 mph, and be turning 3600 rpm - chillin' like a villain.
I saw a Suzuki Samurai for sale on E-bay a while back, dropped, tubbed and tube chassis, with 800 hp or something. The guy said it would run in the 10s' but stated he would screen anybody that bid on it before he would sell to them. Cool little car to back off a trailer and park at car shows ....Mike
