novice needs prop advise

I have a similar question to the earlier thread. I am new to the go fast boat world and have recently purchased an 1982, 38' model 377 KAAMA, with twin 502's. My first outing has made me a definite addict and now I want to learn everything about this new hobby. I am currently running a 24 Pitch prop and was only getting around 50MPH at 4000 rpm's as max performance. All the local shops have an abundance of opinions ( none of which seems to agree with each other ) so I wanted to seek advise here from the people that run these kind of boats. I am told that the max performance I should expect from these 502's would be around 70 mph at 5300 rpms for a 38' boat. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

What year and model are the motors? HP?

Since you are new to perfromance boating I have to ask, how were you running the boat trim wise?

sorry for the slow response, been traveling. On my first outing with this boat one engine blew in a big way just days after a boat mechanic finished checking everything out for me and stating it was ready for the water. I have a performance shop building me a replacement long block right now. The other engine was rebuilt ten hours ago by the same performance shop that is buidling this long block for me. Before I made the purchase I spoke with the mechanic and he stated both engines were putting out just under 500hp, 498 on one and 496 on the other. As for how it was trimmed, that is what I was experimenting with on my first and only 3 hr trip when the engine blew. I was going through various positions with the drives and tabs to see which gave me the best performance, needless to say I didn't get to finish that task.
