86 Scarab I
350/260hp ignition upgrade

I have an 86 Scarab I with a stock 350. Was wondering what kind of ignition upgrades anyone has done or what would be good for me? When I idle threw a channel at the lake I tend to loose a cylinder and have to run the engine about 2k to get it back. I'm still running the thunderbolt IV ignition. A friend put a hei distributor on his and he lost his tach, whether that was a coincidence or from the upgrade we don't know but I didn't want to risk loosing mine. Anyone have any ideas or what has worked for you? Thanks

I don't believe that you need a new ignition. The Thunderbolt IV is a proven ignition and more than adequate for your application. I would look into why your fouling a plug, ie. to cold of a plug. Maybe if you get a hotter coil it might help.

86 Scarab I
I'm running autolite 25 which they said was one hotter than stock. I also lost a cylinder when I was cruising on the lake. We have adjusted the carb and timing and finally put it back to stock.(stock carb) That ran the best. This came off a boat that was having the same problem and he upgraded to the hei and lost his tach. So were thinking that its probably the ignition.
