I want to remove the muffler cans from my 26' Scarab with 502 Mag

I was wondering if there is an easy/quick/inexpensive way to remove the muffler cans from a 1996 Scarab 26' with a 502 Mag.

First, is there anything wrong with cutting them out and running some pipe in their place?

Second, if there is a right way, and it is much more involved and costly, I would still like to know how (such as new risers and new thru-hull setup).

If there is a quick and easy way, I'd opt for that now and then jump to the second step next year.

Muffler cans seen here:

I had the same set up and completely removed them. The acual mufflers are held in by a few screwes so the mufflers along with all of the hose etc can easily be removed. I had stainless steel plates made to cover the factory holes. I bought exhaust tips and had new holes cut in the transom so that the exhaust would run straingt out the back of the boat. I did change the stock manifolds to Gil Hardin but my guess would be that you could simply run exhaust hose from the stock manifolds to the new exhaust tips in the transom. Here is a link to my boat if you wanted to check out a few pictures

For now, I think I am going to run the stock exhaust out the back through new tips. Seems simple enough. I see those two garbage cans and I want them out of my boat.

I am sure I will be itchin' for a new exhaust soon, but this will pacifiy me for now!

Thanks. Pics were perfect.
