1999 Model Scarab 29AVS

Hi,

I have got a 1999 Model Scarab 29AVS with twin 350mag mpi engines on Bravo one legs with SS Mirage 23 " Pictch props. The boat is pulling 60+ mph at 5500 rpm which is 250 rpm more than it should. I would like to chnage the props , can anyone adise what props are best ( 3 blade , 4 blade ) to increase the top speed and reduces the RPM's. Legs are standard height and not short.

Please email me with prop suggestion on

A 29 AVS? Can you post pictures? I would like to see that. If you are really turning 5500rpm at proper trim you should be able to go to labbed 27s. If the boat really has a ventilated bottom than 4 blades might be best although you would not be able to turn 27s. If it is really a straight bottom boat than 3 blade Mirage + will likely work best. Also, if the boat is really a straight bottom than something seems off in the parameters you have provided. I have never seen one able to trun better than 25 pitch 3 blades in a factory stock configuration.

In the photo there do not appear to be any steps in the bottom. Just so you know, the AVS monicor stands for "aft ventilated steps". I personally know of no 29s that were built with Kevlar other than the P-29 special edition. It would be interesting to know if the one you have was custom ordered that way? If it was, and is really built with Kevlar, it would obviously be lighter and that might account for why you are able to spin 23s to 5500 rpm. The other thing that doesnt really make sense is that you should be hitting the rev limiters at 5500?????????

Half way down the hull it is stepped and cut away , which i guess is the AVS ? I am really struggling to get the new engine vents, do you have any Scarab dealers over there that you can recommend that might be able to help ?

New problem that i have is that my port engine is not pulling more than 3500rpm and seems like its only running with a couple of cylinders down. I have had the motor compression tested and all is ok. Any ideas ?

Would love to see some pics of the bottom of your boat! Is it maybe just a pad bottom you are talking about?

On the running issue, I would be checking spark/ignition if your cylinders are fine. Cant be more specific without more info.

On the side vents, getting them is going to be difficult. Since the Scarab performance line has not been built since 02' parts are getting harder to find. You may have some success on Ebay. I have seen misc Scarab parts here and there. Alot of guys in the US have had them fabricated out of aluminum when the need has risen.

Pretty sure it is just the pad. I have a 1995 29 and it has a small pad bottom.
As far as I know, the only stepped Scarabs were the 33, 38 and special order 43's. And of course the 430 Eliminator!
