How fast is your 28 Excel
I just got finished building a 28 excel with a 575 HP motor in it I will be running the motor at 5300 rpm to reach peek HP. what would you estimate my speed at. I don't have my prop picked out yet. I just know that there some people out there that are running the same boat with similar power or even more. I would like to know there results.
I am looking for true speeds only. I raced a 38 formula yesterday for a brief run while testing props and walked right by him. he asked me how fast I was and I said I didn't know ( but I did) . He said his boat ran 80 mph with twin hp500's. Well I know that my boat was running around 67 - 68 on gps at the time. and I beat him. I also have a friends that has the same boat with 630 hp motors in it and the boat will just touch 70 MPH on gps.
So what I am trying to say is please post your boats real speed , HP, and prop your running.... not how fast you would like to run. This would be a great help to me.
Thanks
Paul

Scarab28 Thanks for the call the other day. I don't know if you read my post or not but I blew a head gasket that afternoon. I was getting water in the oil. I only had 2 hours on the motor. It should be fixed with in two weeks max if I need a head. I will make sure I get hold of you before I run up that way I would love to see the boat.
Any way what HP do you think you have and if you can could you post some of your engine specs.
Thanks
Paul

I forgot . I raced a 38 formula with hp500's in it from your neck of the woods. I walked right by him. He said his boat does 80 Thats kind of funny because a friend has the same boat with 630 hp blower motors and just touches a bit over 70.
do you know the boat?????

With the bigger boats it takes about 1/2 mile to get to top speed. You would probably blow past me also and I do 77 mph gps.

Sorry to hear about the head gasket. Been there, done that.
Anyways, here's the engine specs:
454 Mark IV, +.060
SRP flat top pistons, 8:1
Crane Cams (2500 - 5500 power range)
MR. Gasket head gaskets
Stock Rect port heads
Manley inconel exh valves, SS intakes
Team G Single plane intake
Procharger w/ M2 charger, 7 lb boost
SX electric fuel pump
750 Holley, 84 p, 98 s
I originally started with a Gen 5 block and blew a head gasket within hours. Knock on wood the Mark 4 is holding togehter nicely.
Keep us posted on how you make out. WHat are your Engine specs?
