Default 38 scarab 2000/w 502

Recently purchased 280 original hours. Stock motors. 502 EFI. Any advice for what to do to upgrade engines? Leave it alone until it breaks? Just asking for any general ideas to make it better... Thanks

You can install exhaust at $4-6k and unleash a little power (30 hp?) or install a pair of motors taken from something else (500efi/525efi/575sci) for $15k-25k and sell yours for $8k-12k. I did that on my last 2 boats. My 31' scarab had a continuous motor problem. Replacing both with good motors and selling my one good one netted me a cost of about $7k. My current boat was for sale in 2006 with 525sc's for $110k. I picked it up 1 year later with no power for $59k and bought a pair of rebuilt 575 sci's for $32k + installation (another $4k for everything)=$95k and they had 0 hours! Mike

Buy Beer,Raybans and always take at least three chicks with you ....... Forget doing anything to the boat except gas and oil. Those engines will work just fine for a long time and get you a honest 65mph in flat water. Have a good time with the boat and good luck !!!

I agree with cigboat1, pick up a set of K&N flame arrestors and if you really feel the need to add a few extra horsepower aftermarket exhaust like a kit from stainless marine or IMCO is a nice upgrade, then a little prop work should get you 2-4 mph. Or just leave it how it is. The 38 AVS is a realy nice boat enjoy it !!
